The place that has been here before i was born, probably would still be here for a very long time, and there is a good reason for it: the food.
Pros: very good food quality and consistency. great staff once you get to know them. spacious. have a menu with price on it. Cons: don’t have much of a vibe here. the first time that you come here will be rough. customer service is slow, but it is the same everywhere in Hue.
I first tried the banh nam here when i was a little boys who just come to Hue for some family business. The whole trip are forgettable as best as I was not old enough to understand and appreciate the way of the Hue people, which I have seen a lot of complaints about this and many of the other Hue establishments. But the dish, banh nam, stuck in my brain likes a old commercial melody that just keep on repeating on my head.
And as I grew older, perhaps change quite a bit on the way, Hue would still manage to stay true to herself, a few new buildings were built, newer establishments have replaced the old one in those ten long years away from my home town. And from a humble shop, Ba do have also changed, no longer the shabby, dilapidated shop with a long line of customers waiting to be serve but a mansion with a big black gate with decent sittings and acceptable service. Yet, the dishes, after all these years, still faithful to the old way, delicious and captivating, which more or less explains why the long line of customers would still be waiting in front of the shop like to be serve.
This place is what I would call an eatery, you go here for the food and then you leave. This place have no vibe whatsoever. Everything here screams hey, if you are done eating, either you order more or be on your way. And the service is acceptable for Hue ( many would find it lackluster, but it is just the way Hue is, slow and does not seem to care about the customer much. Should you spend more time with the staffs, they would start to warm-up on you.)
I order the whole menu and it set me back 310k (vat include and no service fees, thank the lord). I and 2 more person would be full and satisfied. We were recommended oranges juice and it was ok.
In conclusion, this place have a long tradition of dishing out good food, and I would whole heartedly recommend it to anyone who haven’t gotten the chance to try Hue traditional entrees (appetisers). You won’t be...
Read moreSecond time I've been to this place and the last time I visited was a few years back, good quality traditional Hue cuisine. This establishment is well known in the area, it is further away from city centre by a few minutes, it offers indoors and outdoors dining, it's spacious, clean. Plenty of parking for your motorbike The menu is simplistic so there's no fussing about what to order, prices are reasonable We ordered pretty much every item that was on the menu for the 4 people in our group, don't recommend having too much because youll want to save some space in your tummy for other street food to try on the way home. The dishes we ordered come accompanied with a chilli fish sauce, so if you're not into chilli, it won't be as exciting to eat. Also comes with the plain fish sauce and soy sauce is available on request. Paying the food bill when done could be confusing because nothing is recorded, the owner just comes around with his phone to add up what he sees of what's left on the table, plates/trays, drink cans, glass etc and goes off that. Overall a good dining experience...
Read moreVery local experience, a bit far from the touristic areas (actually, people were looking at me a little funny when I walked in, as in, what are YOU doing here?) and the food is typical Hue small portions. I chose the Banh Ram It, which was nice, crunchy and sticky texture, the Banh Khoai, also nice, crispy pancake meal with a shrimp, you mix with the peanut sauce, and finally the Banh nam, which was again a type of sticky rice(?) meal with some crunchy bits wrapped in palm leaf, which you can add a bit of spiceyness to and then eat maybe with a spoon (not a very elegant meal). I was quite full by that point and kinda sick of sticky things but what ruined it for me was that I found a big hair in one of them. Shame. Anyway, the price is ok (picture of the menu enclose) but not sure I would treck there (if you're a tourist), the unlucky hair notwithstanding. You can get the local flavour in...
