First things first, if you are only passing through Kon Tum, stop by Eva Cafe and make sure you meet Mr. An. He possesses a wealth of knowledge about the area and is an open book for those willing to learn. Eva Cafe itself is also a living work of art - the perfect place to have a coffee, relax, and enjoy Mr. An’s sculptures and garden. It also happens to be a staple in the local community. If you stick around long enough, it is a great place to meet some new friends.
Kon Tum also happens to be the perfect location for those of you who are interested in exploring the many ethnic minority villages that dot the surrounding mountainside. If that’s what you’re looking for Mr. An is your man!! His guide services are second to none.
In a country with a booming tourism industry like Vietnam, experiences like what Mr. An offer are few and far between. This is not a heavy handed, for profit experience like you will find in Sapa or Dalat. Mr. An had a deep relationship with many tribes (going back 30+ years). As his guest, these communities will welcome you as a friend and invite you into the intricacies of their daily lives. These tours are structured in a way that allow you to give back. A portion of your payment will go towards presents and resources for the villages.
Please note that these experiences are intended for the adventurous traveler with an open mind. If you are someone who needs western comforts, this might not be for you ;)
Thanks for everything Mr. An! Hope we’ll meet...
Read moreMy partner and I found Eva Cafe whilst reading the Rough Guide to Vietnam in hopes of finding an authentic tour of the surrounding village tribes to Kon Tum.
We decided to do the 2 day 1 night option with Mr An and it surpassed all our expectations. We visited many villages and met with locals who inhabit them. These were all very authentic encounters and not tailored to tourists - which is exactly what we wanted from this experience.
We could see that Mr An has built genuine friendships with these people and it felt that we as guests were genuinely welcomed into their lives. We were invited into peoples houses, into a community party, as well as offered food and rice wine by the locals.
We stayed one night in the home of a member of the ethnic minority group in a remote village nestled within the mountains. This deepened our knowledge and understanding of how the people of this village live day-to-day.
The food served for lunch, breakfast and dinner was simply excellent. We also were given fruits by many villagers as we were passing by.
The hiking trails guided by Mr An and the villagers were all enjoyable and scenic.
Mr A was an excellent guide and was very knowledgable on the local tribes as well as Vietnam in general - we had great conversations about a number of topics.
This was one of the most memorable experiences we’ve had during our 6 weeks in Vietnam. Thank you once again, Mr An!

Read moreBeautiful cafe with a great atmosphere! The coffee tastes great and you can feel in every inch that the owners and staff take good care and love their cafe.
After enjoying the delicious coffee, we decided to ask the owner for his tours and booked super spontaneously.
The tour was amazing but challenging not only physically but also mentally as you learn so much about nature, the culture and the live of the tribes in the mountains. When going on those tours, you don’t feel like a tourist on a tour, but like friends on a hiking trip. You can truly feel that for An it is not about making an income but about having an opportunity to go and visit his friends. It is quite pricey in comparison but this also includes gifts and medical help for the people that live very remotely.
Thank you for everything, all the good coffee that we had and the opportunity to...
