I'm shocked when people say nothing about this. Slow down, look, and think. It's a memorial to a phase of Vietnamese history, a history involving centuries of successfully expelling one foreign aggressor after another. See that anti-tank weapon in the man's hand? Using it automatically killed the user, they knew that, and to protect their homeland and people didn't flinch. I've served as a soldier, and I'm pretty sure that - ready as we were to die by accident, so to speak - none of us would have been willing to snatch up a weapon and with certainty die virtually anonymously for our homeland. It's tragic and gob-smacking at the same time. No doubt the person who suggests there's nothing here nonetheless took a selfie. Vietnam rewards people who amid the noise and - outward - chaos, stop and think deeply about where you stand, and what has gone before. A profound sense of shared history permeates the place, but rather like our first acquaintance with books, learning to 'read' it takes some longer...

On the "central" or "northern" side the trains don't go so often and police tries to block the access to the rails 🙈 Basically, they are just a pain in the bum because of you just take a little walk around the block (like 200m) you'd have an open access and nobody stops anybody to come and see the rails and hang out in the bars. Good beers and good food for a little turisty prices (around 100 K VND)
The "southern" side of the rails is little bit out of the centre but trains come more often. That's the train street you should go to. Grab a grab 😉 They have a time table of the trains coming. So, if you're there too early, I suggest to go wandering the streets around. It is not turisty and you'll find it out by the prices of everything: food, clothes and I found even a local street bar who served little Bia Hoi (0.3 l draft beer)...

Hanoi Train Street (Southern section) offers a thrilling and unforgettable experience in the heart of the city. Nestled between narrow residential buildings, this railway track comes to life as locals and tourists gather to witness the train passing just inches away from the cafes and homes. I would rate this place 5 out of 5 stars for its unique atmosphere and exciting vibe.
The cafes along the track provide a perfect spot to enjoy a Vietnamese coffee while waiting for the train. The staff are friendly, often reminding visitors to stay safe when the train approaches. Watching the massive train pass so closely is an exhilarating experience that can’t be found anywhere else.
This place is a must-visit for travelers seeking something different in Hanoi. Just be sure to check the train schedule in advance to catch the...
