This place is incredible! Such a find. All of the local food is delicious, tastes home cooked, and is healthy and full of veggies. We came here when we first arrived in Phong Nha, and liked the food so much that we asked if they've ever thought about teaching a cooking class. They then invited us to come back the next afternoon when things were slow and said they would show us how to make their recipes! They said that we could pick anything from the menu and just pay normal prices, and they would invite us to watch them cook it without charging extra. We took notes on the dishes we picked and are excited to try making them ourselves when we get home. A few highlights: Meat with spicy taste, chicken: lemongrass and turmeric, option to make it spicy, lots of veggies, really special dish. Luclac beef: tender sauteed steak cubes and veggies served with fries. Reminded us a bit of lomo saltado. Banana flower and mango salads: really tasty and nutritious salads, the best versions we've had of each in Vietnam Three bean salad: simple, healthy, and so good. The dressing had passion fruit to add a bit of sourness and it was such an interesting variation from a lot of the other flavors we've been eating. Great family atmosphere, cheap prices (the lowest prices we've seen the area), comfy chairs, and even a free plate of fruit at the end of the meal.

I just moved to Phong Nha and I finally got to eat here. If you notice, all the reviews are 5-star which is unusual. Here's my 5-star review. Wonderful, delicious dishes! The food is very fresh and nicely presented. I tried 4 dishes which I knew was way too much for one sitting but I figured the left-overs would make a second dinner which has turned out to be the case. I had the vegetarian spring rolls (see photos), the vegetable soup, the mushroom/eggplant dish and the BBQ pork ribs. Again, everything was just so flavorful and tasty! There are so many other interesting choices, I'm glad I live close by so I can eat here whenever I don't want to cook and when friends come to visit.. Nothing on the menu is over 100,000 including cocktails which is also very unusual. My four dishes plus two beers came to 380,000! Service is very friendly so be sure to leave a tip! There's even a "peekaboo" river view from the outside deck.

To be very honest I was going to rate it 3 out of 5 stars but then changed my opinion based on the way the owner handled everything. I ordered chicken fried rice and mango salad. Mango salad was good but there was just some green stuff which tasted really strange. Later I found out it's called fermented mustard greens. I think it's just my palate but it ruined the taste of the whole dish and I could eat like 30% only. Apparently it's part of some Vietnamese/Chinese cuisine which lots of people love. So I can't blame them as it's just a taste issue from my side. The owner didn't charge full for the rice and was apologetic even though it's not anyone's fault. Very professional behaviour. Also gave a fruit bowl in the end as a courtesy. In case you don't like that taste, just ask them during order and the food will be alright.

I came to this restaurant on the recommendation of other travellers. I'm glad I made the short trip out of town to check it out. The restaurant appears to be run by three pint sized cuties that deliver as a team. Service is excellent with genuine hospitality. The food is fresh, the menu is ingredient focused and a little innovative. They have both Vietnamese and Western menu options. There is a Vegan page as well. The prices are really good value considering the quality. The kitchen looks spotlessly clean. The ambience is nice. They also have off-menu specials as well which is what I ordered. The drinks menu is fairly extensive (mojitos 60,000) and all items I ordered were fresh and tasty. Unfortunately I can't remember the names of the dishes I tried. Out of the restaurants I have experienced in town so far, Lotus stands out as being a step up in so many ways. I highly recommend you...
