I’ve lived in Vietnam for nearly seven years now, and I know the difference between a budget burger and one that claims to justify a premium price. When you’re charged 165,000 VND for a burger, you’d expect at least quality imported beef, decent seasoning, and proper preparation. What I received was closer to a 26,000 VND street-side patty—bland, poorly constructed, and insulting for the price point. On the other hand I think the meat was around 50g and it wasn’t 100% beef.
What makes this worse is the history—I came here four years ago and had some of the best Western food I’d had in Vietnam. Something has clearly changed, and not for the better. The quality has plummeted while the prices have skyrocketed. It genuinely feels like the management is trying to cash in on unsuspecting customers who don’t know better.
Before writing this, I scrolled through some recent reviews and realized my experience wasn’t isolated—others have also called out the same issues. It’s incredibly disappointing to see a place that once had potential now scamming customers with subpar food and inflated prices.
The pizza was no better. In fact, it was worse—no cheese, just drenched in tomato sauce and overloaded with minced garlic. It felt like an afterthought, not something a restaurant with any pride would serve.
It’s clear to me that this place is not catering to expats or anyone with an appreciation for good food. If I had been served this burger and pizza anywhere else in Vietnam, I’d walk away knowing I’d been ripped off—and that’s exactly how I feel now.
Do yourself a favor and skip this place. There are plenty of spots in Vietnam that respect their customers and serve food worth the price. This just isn’t one of them.
I also voiced my concern to the Vietnamese host who suddenly forgot english and didn’t know what to say when I asked her what kind of 3rd rate...
Read moreWhat a splendid surprise! My wife, my work colleague and I were looking for a restaurant with a menu a bit more familiar to Westerners. Vietnamese cuisine is amazing but when catching a flight the next day, we needed a bit of predictability. The Social is an unassuming, small space that invites you to disconnect from the busy life. It’s exactly what we needed.
For us, four amazing things happened.
We ordered a bottle of red wine. They were out but, the owner, Nick from Canada, jumped on his motorcycle and quickly returned with a nice sparkling red. BTW, he didn’t tell us he was doing that but he did give us fair warning his bike could be loud. It was much appreciated. He didn’t have to do that.
My wife has dietary restrictions. The staff went out of their way to make sure she could have something to eat exactly how she needed it.
Our food was delicious. My wife had the french toast. Laly had a grilled cheese (there’s mayo on it, heads up Americans) and I had a margarita pizza. All of it, excellent.
When it was time to pay, we had a complication with our credit card. Nick and team helped us to solve the issue and he did it in a way where we could have really been taken advantage of. But, that’s not who he is or why The Social exists.
All in all, this was a fantastic experience and if you have the time, go and relax. Say hello to Paul, as well. That man has some fantastic stories.
We are going back for breakfast. Nick offered to open early for us but 9am is...

The bar and restaurant setup is excellent — a fantastic corner location that gives it a relaxed yet vibrant vibe. It’s the perfect spot to unwind, meet other expats or hang out with friends. Nice pool table, big screen showing live sports or music videos in the background.
The menu is impressive too — a great selection of food and drinks that cater to all tastes, and everything is very reasonably priced. Great pizza! Excellent value for money!
The owner deserves a special mention — genuinely welcoming, down to earth, and clearly passionate about making this place a standout experience for everyone.
