The Old The Old Farm House — Restaurant in Southern Province

We ordered 2 steaks, the sea bream, onion rings, and the Portuguese chicken. Everything was delicious and price was good except for the onion rings which were extremely greasy.

However, the food took over an hour to arrive when there were only a few other tables. A table that came after us was given food first. To give them the benefit of the doubt, there were only two of them, and it seemed they only ordered the steak. But over an hour seems ridiculous, especially since they were the only other table we saw recieve food.

The server, Milton, was kind. The only complaint is that while we where we were waiting over 45 minutes, we decided to pass the time with pool. The pool table was barely functional (qu-tip was plastic and broken, balls missing due to poor table functionality, a worker had to climb underneath the table for us to get the balls). When we got the bill, we were charged for three games of pool where two of the games were restarted since the table was missing two balls (of which we found and then restarted). It was quite a small amount, but it feels worth mentioning since we waited over an hour for food and were simply playing because we were beyond bored waiting for our food and then got charged. Had a perfect afternoon and evening here. So good to get away from the hotels and tours and experience some great Zambian/South African hospitality. Lovely garden area and great little bar with a small patio for tables. Our hosts were super friendly and attentive and the regulars at the bar were super friendly too (even though I was supporting an opposing team with the rugby on TV). The food was excellent, the best we had our whole trip, as other reviewers say- if you like steak you can’t beat it. We also had the chicken livers and the schnitzel- all excellent. Under new ownership/management for 2 months. Lovely to see this place looking clean and spruced up. Great customer service with a personal touch. Attentive servers and watchful care by the new owner/manager. Very personable and friendly, they clued in that it was our daughter’s birthday and went out of their way to make it special.

Glad to still see a small, eclectic menu but they need time to dial in the food. I expect they’ll work out the kinks and be fantastic next...
