Zargana — Restaurant in Municipality of Ilion

This restaurant is traditional, it's local, and honestly one of the best restaurants I have had the pleasure of visiting.

The menu is in both Greek and English, but it is a rather small menu which adds to the charm of this place even more! Everything is traditional home-cooked food that is served up as if you were a family member visiting. There's nothing fancy about it, it is simply brilliant food.

The staff are all amazing! Despite a language barrier, we were made to feel very welcome on every single visit (of which we had many, spending 50% of our evening meals here - Of the 7 nights we had in Athens, we ate here on 4!). There aren't many staff, but again, it adds to the charm. Everyone knows everybody and it is a popular spot for the residents of the area.

We felt so welcomed, and it was as though they wanted to make sure we had a lovely dinner. Which we did. Many times.

As for the food, everything is great value! We must have tried 75% of the menu during our stay, with the only section that we didn't touch being the fish. Portion sizes are very generous which was great considering how cheap everything is! Not so great for our waistlines though, when we made a habit of having tzatziki (Greek yoghurt dip) on every visit with the added calorie bomb of saganaki (fried cheese - I believe the cheese is Graviera!).

The extra pounds gained were worth it though, to have spent such great times at this restaurant.

We also fell in love with the rose wine that they sell. It comes in a 500 mL jug for between 3-4€.

Of all the dishes that we tried, we found that we especially loved the following: Tzatziki Fava (split pea dip) Saganaki Variety plate: This is a little like a mixed grill type of dish, with a selection of different meats, fries and pita. It can be found all over Greece, but the one that they do here is fantastic. For 15€ we were served a very generous portion of pita, fries, chicken, sausage, beef patties, lamb kebabs and I believe we had pork also. This is also served with a smaller pot of tzatziki!

The staff here seem to know everyone, and treat all customers like old friends.

We are glad to have spent so many of our nights here during our stay, and hope that we can return to Athens and visit this restaurant again!

Το φαγητό είναι πραγματικά υπέροχο, με τα φρέσκα ψάρια να κλέβουν την παράσταση. Καταπληκτικά μαγειρεμένα, σερβίρονται με έναν τρόπο που τονίζει τη φρεσκάδα και την ποιότητά τους. Η ποικιλία των μεζέδων είναι εντυπωσιακή, προσφέροντας μια γκάμα γεύσεων από τα παραδοσιακά κεμπάπ και σουβλάκια μέχρι τους λαχταριστούς ψαρομεζέδες.

Η ατμόσφαιρα στο "Zargana" είναι ζεστή και φιλόξενη, με ένα διακριτικά διακοσμημένο εσωτερικό που αντανακλά την παραδοσιακή ελληνική αισθητική, αλλά με μια σύγχρονη πινελιά. Οι σερβιτόροι είναι πάντα ευγενικοί και πρόθυμοι να προτείνουν πιάτα ανάλογα με τις προτιμήσεις σας, εξασφαλίζοντας μια πλήρως ικανοποιητική εμπειρία.

Το τσίπουρο και οι μεζέδες είναι επίσης από τα δυνατά σημεία του μαγαζιού, με το τσίπουρο να σερβίρεται Με μεζέδες ξεχωριστούς, συνοδεύοντας άψογα τα πλούσια και γεμάτα γεύση πιάτα. Η επίσκεψη στο "Zargana" αποτελεί μια απόλυτη απόλαυση, που συνδυάζει την ποιότητα, την ατμόσφαιρα και την εξυπηρέτηση σε ένα συναρπαστικό σύνολο.
