We have been coming here for about 2 years now. Whether it's 10° out side or 100°. This place is so beautiful. Peaceful. Eagles as far as you can see. Hawks. Herrings. Cranes. Woodpeckers. Squirrels of every color. Frogs, turtles, deer, coyote, badgers, chipmunks, a whole trail of pine. Fishing, horseback riding, swimming, beaches, dam, boating, kayaks, etc. I believe even primative camping. We picnic here during hikes. There are 3 waterfalls all different sizes. A huge pond. Playgrounds. Fire places available in a shelter to use as well. Closes late 11pm. I find this place to be the main reason I stay living in Wabash. There is a huge rock called hanging rock. With the history posted at the bottom. Very cool find. Hilly roads great for motorcycles.

I love this place. I visit 2 -3 times per week, no matter the season or weather. It is a really good hike. A little rugged in spots, but plenty of different trails to choose from. You can hike down to the Wabash River to fish. Hunting is allowed during Hunting season. If you don't want to hike the Forrest, the road is really hilly and wavy, lined with beautiful trees. Salamonie Dam is nearby as well, and some people go there to fish. There is only a primitive campground here, And at Hominy Ridge, there is a boat ramp for non motor boats. It isn't a very big lake, but big enough to relax. Salamonie Forrest also has a horse campground for people who want to take their horses on the trails.

The Salamonie River State forest has many trails (Blue, Red, Yellow, Green & 3 Fall Trail-all vary in length). I only went on the Three Fall Trail and enjoyed it (goes in a loop). It has 3 water falls, but they weren't doing too much due to it still being cold. This trail is most likely a better one to go to during warmer spring/summer, but the waterfalls were still cool to see. Also, bring a change of shoes because it does get muddy. Close by is the Kokiwanee Nature Peserve, Hathaway Perserve at Ross Run, Charley Creek Falls at Wabash City Park, and Matlock Falls at a Cemetery that have beautiful waterfalls.

Great place for the outdoors. You can hunt or fish, camp, water sports. You can even ride horses even though they tear up the trails, cause mud pits, then decide their horses are too special to get muddy so they go off trail and tear up forest. They also liter a lot. But aside from the pox in the woods that is people riding horses being destructive and annoyingly loud, the place is great. Bring your family sometime to camp or just hike. Make sure you wear boots though and watch where you are stepping... cause horses...

I really enjoyed coming to this state forest when I lived in NE Indiana. Some lovely trails for the area, and pretty little waterfalls and views of the river. I am a backpacker, so I actually connected the Three Falls trail and the bridle trails up here all the way down to the Bloodroot Trail at Salamonie Lake to make a 26-ish mile out and back hike down to campsite 1 of the Bloodroot. Was super muddy on the horse trails in March, but a fun route-finding adventure.

Trails were pretty muddy... impassibly so in places but we still enjoyed our trip. We love this place, it's truly magical. Camped at the State Forest primitive campground, it was very quiet and dark at night just the sounds of insects and owls making music. I didn't want to go home. We spent a couple rainy evenings at the ccc shelter with a cozy fire and i couldn't help thinking that there was nowhere else id rather be.
