Armed guards are on duty & they prohibit visitors from climbing the stairs to stand under the sloping palm leaves. I was just happy to be standing anywhere within its proximity. This is yet another landmark seen on my short list of solo world adventures. It really is quite marvelous looking. However, I have two criticisms to do: first of all regarding the ban on taking photos which I find rather stupid and annoying for those who want to keep some souvenir images. Second of all the plates are written only in Arab and sometimes in French and/or English; I think that this is wrong for two reasons which are that English is necessary as is the international language and everyone should understand that and in the second place it should be written also in Amazigh as Algeria has that language...

A short cable car ride (roughly 11p sterling) takes you to the museum and monument that enjoys a great view of the coast and the city below - a superb vantage point to take a panoramic photograph.
The detail and thought behind the construction of the monument especially the three gold coloured statues at the base of the supporting pillars was not lost on me. I'd definitely recommend visiting the site to enjoy it for yourself.
