Hotel La Perla is located in barrio Once (also known as Balvanera) just west of the city's center. I paid US$28 per night (the exchange rate at the time was about 3 pesos to 1 dollar), which included a delightful continental breakfast in the hotel's adjoining cafe. My single room with double bed and private bath with shower was very small. I found it clean on arrival and it was cleaned daily (including tidying up my strewn clothes). The rest of the facility (reception area, corridors, etc. were also quite clean). The staff were friendly and helpful (but spoke little English as they cater to mostly South American tourists). The location is ideal, on the corner of Plaza Miserere. It is just steps away from one subway line and about 5-6 blocks from another. Also, probably a dozen buses stop at the hotel's doorstep, including the ONLY bus to/from the major airport (a one-way 2-hour trip to/from the airport costs a mere 1.35 pesos). The only drawbacks were a leaky bathroom sink and a lot of street noise as the hotel sits above a busy intersection in a 24/7 city (but earplugs did...
Read morePros: Very clean hotel, good breakfast, next to a subway stop.||Cons: Dirty, loud and busy neighbourhood, unhelpful staff, noisy location.||||Very modern, clean and in good condition for BA standards. We didn't speak great spanish and found the staff couldn't give us the time of day. Absolutely hated the direct neighbourhood its in. The streets were continually packed with street vendors selling crap and you couldn't even walk through them. People would just go to the toilet in front of you, we even got spat on. Did not feel safe going out at night by myself. However, if you like buying stuff and he hustle and bustle is your thing, then stay here! We got one of the front rooms over the Jujuy Av and it was ridiculously noisy. This place is very much no fuss, simple, basic chain hotel style.||||Half way through our stay we moved to a boutique hotel in San Nicolas, and it completely changed our view of BA. The place was the opposite - a charming old building, wonderful architecture, staff that went beyond and a beautiful, safe quiet neighbourhood - for only a...
Read moreThe hotel is generally very good. It is conveniently located right near a main subway station, making it easy to get to various places in the city. However, this made it a little noisy (earplugs worked fine). Overall, the room was quite small/modest, but this was in line with the cost so the value for money was great.||||There were a number of available tours/activities that could be booked through reception. The only problem is that all of them had to be paid in cash because charging them to the room and paying via credit card when checking out would cost an extra 10%. Also, the buffet breakfast options were somewhat limited (mostly pastries and cakes).||||Nevertheless, I had a great stay. The number one reason for this was the staff. They were INCREDIBLY friendly and helpful, even though not all spoke English. One in particular (I think his name was Maximilian) was very helpful in recommending activities while another did all he could to help us find a cab at 01:30 on New Years Eve. The service and friendliness is definitely the best part...
