The Historical and Regional Museum , arises on the initiative of Juan Pablo Duffard, who with a conservative spirit collects and preserves objects and documents belonging to the ancient inhabitants of the Western Village.
Benjamin Duffard, of French origin came accompanying Fontana to found Formosa. His son, Juan Pablo, a cultured man and concerned about preserving the cultural heritage of his ancestors, patiently gathered a large number of historical pieces that he gradually ordered to create the museum.
It is located in the house that belonged as private residence to General Ignacio Hamilton Fotheringham, Governor of the National Territory of Formosa. It was built in the year 1888, later it went on to function as "Government House", being the residence of the different governors until the year 1981. In that year, by Decree No. 343, the "House of Fotheringham", which for almost a century had been the seat of territorial and provincial government, sheltering visits such as Domingo Sarmiento and Juan Domingo Perón, became the Historical and Regional Museum .
It opened its doors to the public in 1963 and is the first National Historical Monument of Formosa by National Decree No. 10,852 / 1953, signed by President Juan Domingo Perón.
By Provincial Decree No. 616/88 the name "Juan Pablo Duffard" is imposed, as a just homage to the man who carried out the defense, preservation and investigation of local history.
