I took a trip up to Mount Osmond Lookout, to pick up Hawthorn, and it turned out to be one of those spontaneous local adventures I didn’t realize I needed. The drive along Mount Osmond Road was scenic and calming, with plenty of winding curves framed by eucalyptus trees—already putting me into a relaxed mood before I even reached the top.
Once I reached the lookout, the panoramic vistas of Adelaide spread out before me were breathtaking. I could see the city skyline, the River Torrens weaving through it, and out to the glimmering waters of Gulf St Vincent—all in one sweeping view. The late afternoon light made the scene even more magical, casting long shadows and soaking everything in a warm, golden glow.
The site itself is casual and unpretentious: a flat gravel space with a few benches, clear viewing points, and even a couple of BBQs for casual picnicking. I appreciated the simple setup—kept the experience authentic and easy-going. I spent a good twenty minutes snapping photos, just relaxing on a bench, and watching the city lights begin to twinkle as dusk approached.
One thing to note is that the wind can be a bit brisk near sunset, so it’s worth bringing a light jacket. I didn’t see any on-site toilets, so it’s wise to plan ahead. Also, since street lighting is limited, I made sure to head back before it got dark.
Overall, the lookout was a wonderful spot for a peaceful evening. Whether you’re after a beautiful view post-work, a quiet place to reflect, or somewhere to bring a small picnic, Mount Osmond Lookout delivers. It’s a local gem that shows off Adelaide’s natural charm in a relaxed, unassuming way. If you haven’t been before, I highly recommend making a little detour—it...
Read moreThis place is a hidden gem—just a 20-minute drive from the CBD. If the weather’s good, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the city by the sea. Watching the sun sink into the ocean from here is truly magical. As daylight fades, the CBD transforms into a field of twinkling lights, like thousands of glow worms scattered across the horizon.
If you live in Adelaide, this is an absolute must-visit spot. The only downside, like many have mentioned, is parking—legit spots are limited, and the inspectors are quite active. But don’t worry; if you drive a bit further ahead, you’ll usually find a space. Just be cautious of the sharp turns along the way and keep your speed...
