Some wonderful wines available. However, customer service was incredibly lacking. Like some of the previous comments here, it needs to be improved. At other wineries in the region, we had respectful and friendly encounters whereas there was nothing too golden here.
The woman who served us was dismissive towards us, which I believe could be that we look 'young and fresh-faced'. She was impatient, more jovial and attentive towards 'older' patrons, rushing us to leave. We had tried to make some conversation and ask good questions, but the whole experience came up a bit short. Stuck around for 10mins, bought 3 bottles that we liked then left.
Never judge a book by its cover - we have adequate wine knowledge, had money to spend, and just wanted to find out a bit more about Granite Belt wine making. Don't just think we're naively living on goon bags and Fruity...
Read moreThis is a review purely on service because the wine I know is incredible. We were last here 7 years ago. Pretty sure Jason looked after us. My daughter was 2 months. We came back today so excited to take "then and now" pic as part of our 10 year wedding anniversary weekend. The two women at the cellar door were horrid. We GET covid for these businesses but they were the fourth winery on our short stay and truly the only unwelcoming one. Being told to keep my 8 and 4 YOs still for a tasting so they don't have to wipe down chairs (in an empty room!) was too much. We bought 6 bottles at least in every winery before that. Golden Grove was where we thought we would spend the most. Really disappointed. And upset to be honest. The cellar door service was plain poor. I can't even recommend it as...
Read moreWe had a fantastic wine tasting; the two of us going through a shared tasting of six wines from their current list. All of them were first rate (88-92 on my 100-point scale), with the Shiraz/Durif blend and Durif (Petite Sirah in the US) really standing out. After a large group left, we had a great conversation with Grace and Sam; very friendly and welcoming folks. We liked the wines so much, we went back the day we left Ballandean and bought a few more bottles! Tasting costs $10, but waived on wine purchase. Really reminded me of small California wineries that my father used to go to when I was young (1970-80s); family run wineries where one tastes and decides whether or not to buy their product, rather than being mostly a "tourism...
