This was a difficult review to write. I really wanted to love this place after looking at the other reviews, and the food was indeed top-notch. But that was where it ended.
There were. So. Many. Flies. I mean literally 5-10 flies constantly hovering everywhere, getting in the food, getting in the wine glasses, landing on our heads and noses and hands and just about everything. We were told that it was because they came in when people opened the doors; we were new to the Granite Belt on that day, so we thought it was just a regional thing and nothing could be done about it. However, we later visited several other wineries and outdoor cafes around the area and did not encounter this issue in any of them, even when we were sitting outside. One fly here and there maybe, but not the constant assault that we received here.
This made it really, really difficult to enjoy our food, and it was a fairly pricey meal for the experience. We came fully intending to order dessert, but as soon as we were done with our mains we just wanted to leave.
I hope management is able to do something about the problem, because it's a pity the food is marred by not being able to enjoy it without your partner taking on the full-time job of swatting flies so you can finally eat in peace...
Read moreFood was fantastic and the Chardonnay was truly lovely. However the service was pretty ordinary and disappointing. No-one at the restaurant counter on arrival and 2 seperate parties waiting for staff to appear. We were served water pretty quickly which was great then it went downhill quickly service wise from there. Young lady disinterested in coming over to take a drinks order. I won't bag her completely but just a disinterested manner all over. Never asked if we'd like another drink. Was over an hour left before close yet stripping all the covers off chairs while we were still eating. Never asked if we had enjoyed our meal. Did ask if we wanted dessert. On leaving we still bid a cheerful thank you and goodbye to which she replied goodbye without even lifting her head from whatever she was doing. Unfortunate but hoping others may get a...
Read moreWe visited The Barrelroom Restaurant at Ballandean Estate Wines for dinner on a Saturday evening. It was easy to make a booking on the website, and I would highly recommend doing so if you plan to visit on the weekend.
The service was good, and so was the food. We ordered a range of dishes, and loved all of them. The favourites probably were the mushroom soup, the sand crab fettuccine, goat ragu and and lamb two ways.
A slight complaint would be the dirty glassware as all of our glasses had marks on them. Replacing some of the them didn't resolve the issue either. This would be okay at certain venues, but one has slightly higher expectations from a winery. Other than this, we had a great experience dining here. The staff were very friendly in answering all our questions about the winery as well as make wine and food...
