A gravelly but flat 3.9km circuit trail that is home to over 100 plant species, 127 bird species, and Brisbane's largest urban population of eastern grey kangaroo. Other macropods are rednecked wallaby and swamp wallaby.
Overall a decent shaded exercise and nature fix if you’re in the area. We spent a quiet weekday walk spotting kangaroos and bird life. No koala sightings on this occasion. I read online about a 2 year old koala ‘Adam’ being recently released into the bushland as part of Brisbane City Council’s successful Koala Reestablishment Program.
You do walk near a fenced railway line and Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre on the other side of that. Sandy Creek runs through the forest but is off the track. Read one of the signs post walk regarding unexploded ammunition risk.👀
Dog friendly (on leash). Sheltered BBQ picnic area next to the centre is wheelchair accessible but I’m not 100% sure on how comfortable it would be on the track. Small carpark but additional alongside road opposite industrial area. Toilets were fairly clean, I had my own soap handy.
🚗 Small carpark & additional space alongside road. 🚻 Toilets available 🦮 Dogs on leash. ♿️ Wheelchair accessible picnic area. Unsure of track suitability. 🦘 Wildlife friendly home 🧺 Picnic tables (sheltered) BBQs & bin available. Water...
Read moreVenture into the wilds of Pooh Corner Bushland, and you'll find a loo with a view that's a bit of a mixed bag. The toilets here are like a box of chocolates from last Valentine's – you're never quite sure what you're going to get.
During the sunlit hours, these facilities are a welcome sight for nature's call. They're functional, they're there, and let's face it, when you've gotta go, you've gotta go. But as the shadows lengthen and the kookaburras sing their closing tune, a sense of seediness creeps in.
It's not that the toilets themselves are up to no good – they're inanimate, after all. But there's an air of 'I wouldn't wander here for a midnight stroll,' a vibe that says, 'It's time to head home, folks.' The kind of place where you'd half expect a bushland critter to offer you a shady deal on some eucalyptus leaves.
So, while the call of nature might be strong, heed the call of common sense stronger. Enjoy the trails, the flora, and the fauna, but when it comes to these bushland loos, treat them like a campfire ghost story – best experienced in the...
Read moreThis is a great flat track that is dog friendly (on lead). Unexploded munitions off track so stick to the trail itself. It's usually pretty quiet but sometimes on weekends there can be bike riders, runners, and dog walkers using the track. Track is a circuit so you can walk either direction. Something I would note is that it sits directly between two jails (you will see one as you walk past) and there's housing for offenders nearby. As it's so remote from anything public, I tend to feel uncomfortable walking alone on...
