The Bundaberg Rum Distillery tour was an absolutely fabulous experience that exceeded all my expectations and left a lasting impression. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this was no ordinary tour. The combination of history, craftsmanship, and passion made for an unforgettable adventure that showcased the rich heritage of Bundaberg Rum.
Our tour guides, Tylah and his female accomplice, were truly exceptional. They were knowledgeable, engaging, and charismatic, bringing the entire experience to life with their storytelling and genuine enthusiasm for the craft. They expertly explained the intricate process of making Bundaberg Rum, walking us through the fascinating history of the distillery and its significance to the local community. Their energy and ability to make the tour both informative and fun were truly remarkable, and their dedication to creating a memorable experience for everyone was evident from start to finish.
The tour concluded with a visit to the gift shop, which was a highlight in itself. It was beautifully presented, offering a wide range of unique souvenirs, Bundaberg merchandise, and, of course, an incredible selection of rum products. From limited-edition bottles to classic favorites, there was something for everyone. The staff were friendly and helpful, making the shopping experience enjoyable and stress-free.
Another standout moment of the visit was the rum tasting. It was an extraordinary opportunity to sample some of the finest rums Bundaberg has to offer, with the guides providing expert advice on how to fully appreciate the flavors and aromas. Each sample was unique and delicious, leaving me with a newfound appreciation for the craftsmanship and care that goes into creating every bottle.
Overall, the Bundaberg Rum Distillery tour was a perfect blend of education, entertainment, and indulgence. The combination of the fantastic tour, the excellent rum tasting experience, and the beautifully curated gift shop made this visit truly unforgettable. I can’t wait to return and experience it all over again – it’s an absolute must-visit for any rum enthusiast or anyone looking for a fun and...
Read moreThe tour was as expected, and I learnt a lot about making rum and about some Bundaberg history. It was hot, though, so take a hat and water bottle! The parking was easy and the museum wonderful, but I would recommend arriving an hour early to look at the museum, go toilet and watch the cinema presentation, we got there 25mins early and it was nowhere near enough time. The tour guides were just lovely, but I felt that because the group was so large, I was missing some of the information. The guide at one end would start talking before we all got there. All valuables and electronics are left in a locker for safekeeping along with everyone else's. It has a big roller door that is locked and has various pigeon holes in it. I think one thing I found upsetting was that we had to remove expensive watches and mobile phones that would cost thousands to replace (family of 6), but the guides don't wait for everyone to arrive before opening the locker at the end of the tour. It is idealistic to assume that everyone is honest, and only going to grab their own stuff. If I was giving advice to someone visiting, I would encourage them to leave valuables at home and carry minimal cash. My advice to the distillery would be not to open the locker until everyone is present. The best bit is the taste testing at the end. Adults are given 2 standard drinks and kids a glass of fizzy drink. I would recommend going with a few adults so you can collectively sample as many flavours as possible. The giftshop is easy to spend your money in once you have tasted all the flavours!! The bar staff are amazing at matching you up with your personal pallet. I would 100% go back and do the design your own tour if someone else paid for it lol, but sadly my finances do not stretch that far. If you have cash to spare, I would really recommend it. I love Bundaberg Rum, and visiting the distillery just cemented my opinion that our Aussie Rum is the best. It is the whole package, the real deal, on ya mate!...
Read moreWe joined the 3pm tour at Bundaberg Rum Distillery today and had an absolute blast. Our guide, Jaydon, was a hoot — his dry and witty humour, combined with excellent presenting skills, made the whole experience both fun and informative. We learned so much about the distillery and its history.
The museum (which you can wander through before the tour) was fascinating and a great way to set the scene. Just a heads-up: it gets pretty warm inside, and you can’t take phones or bags on the tour (lockers are provided beforehand).
The tour ended with free tastings, which were a highlight. I tried the Solera and the chocolate & coffee liqueur — delicious but strong! I eventually settled on the caramel liqueur, which was smooth and indulgent. The gift shop was well stocked too, and I picked up some great souvenirs.
There’s also the option of the “Blend Your Own Rum” experience — if you’ve got a spare $250, you’ll walk away with two bottles of your own personalised blend. Sounds amazing and is on the list for next time!
Overall, highly recommend visiting Bundaberg Rum Distillery if you’re in the area. Just to clarify — this is the famous Bundaberg rum, not the Bundaberg soft drink!
ℹ️ Booking Tip for Bundaberg Rum Distillery: When I tried to book online, it looked like the tour was sold out because no tickets were available. But when I arrived, I was still able to buy tickets at the door. Apparently, the system closes online bookings about 50 minutes to an hour before each tour to prevent overbooking — so don’t stress if it looks “sold out” online, you might still be able to grab a...
