My wife and I with 2 children went for our first mountain bike adventure to Derby. We stayed for 3 nights and we were not disappointed, it was an excellent trip. We stayed in the free campground next to the river. We swam in the river which was slightly chilli for the first few moments but the water temperature wasn't that bad, we were happy to stay in the water for about 30 minutes. The showers and toilets at the free camp ground are pretty new, great water pressure for a hot shower (4 x $1 needed).
The mountain bike trails were fantastic, my 12 year old daughter initially found the blue trailers challenging but she soon had her confidence and after three days she did a green. There is no cost to go on the trails, only cost is if you want a lift up to black stump. You can also ride up to black stump and this takes about 25 minutes or you can get someone to drive you up and drop you off. Lots of great rides from black stump after you have a few basic skills. Highly recommend Derby. We...
Β Β Β Read moreAwesome set of trails with the option to have uplifts to a central point (at a cost except for the 1 free ride you get with bike hire at most shops). Even though it's school holidays and the town is crawling with people on bikes there is a serene quietness when you're on the tracks as people get spread out. The green trail up does take some muscle but is still doable for the inexperienced, useful to get used to the bikes before you buy the uplift tickets. Those who are a bit adventurous on a bike can easily graduate from the green trails to intermediate within a day but the berms take practice to get right if you've not ridden them before. Toilets across the road at the council park are excellently maintained as are the tracks themselves by volunteers. Great in the rain when everyone else is away! Trails are very well marked and Derby Tunnel is at the bottom of Deadly Bugga and worth the...
Β Β Β Read moreI went here expecting something awesome has many people have spoken highly of it and the tracks are extremely well laid out and maintained however the facilities at the base really need expanding for betta shade and areas for people not wishing to participate. It would be very highly advised in my opinion to create a track under the river bridge so bikes can't crossing the Main Road through this area. Also as being a first person here and I'm sure after you have been here multiple times you would get the hang of where the tracks come and go and directions of them but on the left-hand side sign there are 7 track configuration ideas and these would be my suggestion for anyone wanting to take to the tracks with a little bit of knowledge on where you're going and how...
