JCU is the worst University I have ever experienced.
I have a number of reasons for this, however if you want your own proof, outside of my words and experience, just ask several former and current students about their experience.
In terms of courses, the slides are poorly presented, the exams contain a large amount of errors and I experienced markers and lecturers who did not know what they were doing, thus making clear mistakes in the marking of my exams.
The Head of the Law School does not act on anything brought to them and the head of school complains that the university takes all the money and resources away from the school, leaving them without the ability to deliver the subjects to accreditation standards. In regards to the experience online, JCU is well known for its reluctance in going online and there have been some serious issues with lecturers in the law school not wanting to place their "content" online for fear of making themselves redundant.
I personally had a lecturer complain that she did not speak english well enough to explain something to the class effectively, and then I noticed I did not receive marks for plain english terms I had used in an exam because she did not understand it. I have since moved on to another university and I am glad I did.
I would not recommend JCU to anyone, I have come across far too many complaints about JCU from too many people. I am more than happy to provide evidence of the complaints should I be challanged on it. I have them in message form.
A quick message to JCU from me. If you have the ability to pay your VC $1m and advertise to the level of insanity... You should have the ability to deliver subjects and courses to a decent standard....
Read moreExcellent teaching staff. In fact, the corporate level could do with some teaching staff of their own; like teaching the corporates to be more engaged with the students in terms of facilities. I'm specifically addressing the problem of car parking. JCU seems to turn the ol' blind eye when issues over car parks comes up. When you think about requiring car park permits on a Townsville university campus, without a guarantee of actually getting a park, do wonder why they do it? Like, seriously, why are they charging the students to come to uni? I get it addresses the sustainability-approach JCU takes, but given the limited public transport options in Townsville, consistent hot weather to cycle in, and students living in areas where carpooling simply isn't an option, the corporate decision not to ensure there are car parks for students who need them just sickens me.
If you ever get do one of those transport surveys and be clear about the lack of car parks, and still experience no improvements in the years after, you can see how the campus doesn't really care about your need to drive to campus. You are in a low number in which they will always consider 'too low' to...
Read moreJCU PROTECTS ABUSERS.
JCU’s actions speak louder than platitudes. Despite clear evidence of domestic violence, including a now-public court case, the university allowed the perpetrator to graduate with zero conviction recorded. A faculty member even supported him in court. Meanwhile, the survivor continues to live with trauma, and has never received the accountability publicly promised.
If you’re a female student, faculty, or community member seeking safety, restorative justice, or systemic support, don’t rely on JCU. Their silence and inaction make it clear: they protect the abuser, not the victim.
Very disappointed that an institution meant to develop healers has shown it won’t heal wrongly in its own ranks. If you're choosing a university based that has human decency, JCU falls...
