The Wilderness Retreats are tent-like structures that are thoughtfully designed with attention to detail. Everything you could want for an enjoyable stay is provided including crisp linen and all cooking necessities. The only negative was that they only provided one tiny bottle each of shampoo and conditioner when the accommodation was booked for two people and I always find this slightly annoying. ||Car parking is a little walk from your accommodation which is accessed by a path through the bush. There is a communal kitchen which was very clean as were the pots and pans etc. It was mid winter when we stayed so we were appreciative of the gas heater in both our retreat and also the kitchen tent. There are a couple of power outlets where you can recharge your devices. ||Wildlife abounds and we had a gorgeous wallaby with the cutest little joey in her pouch munching away just outside our "tent". And a friendly kookaburra sat on the balustrade of our deck for quite some time, totally unfazed that we were walking past it just inches away. ||The retreats are quite expensive, and I'm not sure that they are good value for money, but it was the only accommodation type available when I booked. It would be interesting to compare them with the other styles such as the cabins and huts which might be better value and closer to the river etc. ||My only other negative is that the fridge in our retreat was quite smelly, possibly as someone had left fish in...
Read moreI’m not too certain about the $350 a night price tag but it is quite a luxe experience compared to your own tent. You get a nice fridge, a heater, a sofa and a queen sized bed. There’s also a terrace that one can sit on to read and the whole thing is covered with a canopy. It does sound slightly like the start of the apocalypse when it’s windy (up to 60km/h at the moment) but I guess if you can’t trust Parks Victoria to put up a tent who can you trust. The whole thing is very sturdy, hardwood floors are a nice touch.
The one thought I had is, there is definitely the ability to build a cabin here, the toilet is a cabin, they brought the floor and the sofa here … then why are the walls made out of canvas?
Then again if you start making a proper cabin out of the retreats it’s probably a slippery slope that ends with a TV in them, a DVD player and a Pokie machine in the camp kitchen. So probably for the best they keep it a tent.
The bathroom is very good,...
Read moreMost diissapointing customer service by the staff here . We arrive an hour early the park is quiet we have booked two nights in a wilderness cabin and the staff refused to let us into our cabin to put food in the fridge despite the cabin being vacant and cleaned . The staff were incredibly rude and inflexible ! Considering we have been coming here for years this lack of customer service is appalling !!! It has tarnished our stay and is totally unnecessary ! We understand there are terms and conditions however on a case by case basis customers should be accommodated where there is no viable reason why they shouldn’t otherwise be ! We paid for this accommodation over six weeks ago and were not asking for much ! Very poor form and a lack of human decency ! Would...
