Barrons Falls is a wide water fall at the head of the Barrons gorge in the Kuranda mountain range 35 km north of Cairns, Queensland; it is a nature reserve, a sacred aboriginal site and situated in lush tropical rainforest. The town of Kuranda famous for it arts and crafts markets is just 4 minutes drive and well worth a visit. A cable car service from Cairns to Kuranda town passes along side the gorge and provides views of the area from a high vantage point. Better still is a public walk way from the car park to viewing points that give great views of the falls. The walk ways themselves are beautiful as they bridge the deep gullies in the forest on route to the falls giving views of the rainforest from ground to canopy level. The walk ways are secured to the ground below unlike cable bridges and are suitable for wheel chairs. The falls are not as grand as the world famous Victoria or Niagra falls but nevertheless being located in a gorge in tropical rainforest has its own magical appeal. There is no access to the waters edge either at the top or the bottom of the falls. The car park is free and there are toilet facilities provided but no refuse bins so please be prepared to take any rubbish back yourself as the prestine forest is litter free! The car park has places for about 40 vehicles which limits the number of vistors but when we visited on a working day it was barely half full. Most visitors will spend no more than 2 - 3 hours at the site so it is unlikely to become congested. Dogs are not allowed...

Beautiful spot with a lovely view of the falls. We visited in the Dry season, so there wasn’t as much water as we’ve seen during the Wet season, but it’s still worth stopping by. Unfortunately, Queensland Rail was doing track maintenance on the day of our visit, so we couldn’t walk down to the lower platform for a closer look.

Be aware that the toilets are long drops and quite smelly – in the Qld summer heat they’ll likely be worse! 🤢🤭😂 Still, a lovely site to take in the scenery when...

The walk is well built in the tree tops. It takes about 10minutes one way if you dont stop to read, take in surroundings. But I'd be surprised if you didn't stop along the way to the Falls. It's amazing to see how high up you are and all the information boards along the walk provided us with facts about the flora and fauna of the area which our 6 year old loved. Easy for pram and wheelchair. Not too busy when we went. There are easy free car parks and toilets. The...
