John Murray Art Gallery — Attraction in Lightning Ridge

STUNNING. Blown away by the talent! John Murray's trademark emus are gorgeous, as are the other crisp, some almost cartoon like, snapshots of Aussie life on canvas. Other works have incredible photo realism, particularly the multpile Triptych sets, some of which are huge. His caricature of Tony Abbott in his budge smugglers is hilarious, accompanied by a letter from Abbott himself...! Also with his colourful paintings hang some pieces of photography which I believe is done by his wife..Her artistry is absolutely beautiful in a completely different way, much darker greys, stark black and whites. Contrasting pieces as opposed to John's focused pictures. Amazing little gallery well...

Never before have we entered an art gallery and loved every piece of art on display........Until we entered the John Murray Art Gallery in Lightning Ridge. What a talent both John and Viki Murray have!!! We loved John's sense of humour and the ladies working there were delightful. Thank you! Ken said he would 'ideally' love to have one room in our home devoted to this art. Sadly that's not possible but the prices are reasonable so we indulged a little on prints and can't wait to hang them when we return home. Amazing art , world class art in Lightning Ridge .We have been looking for a piece we both like and want to display on the wall in the hallway entry to our house. We chose the large “ The Lotus “ canvas which will take pride of place as the first item hung in our new home. We have searched high and low for the right picture for this space and we immediately knew this was it. So happy to be taking away a piece of art that will remind us of our visit to Lightning Ridge and looks amazing as well . Friendly and helpful staff , we will definitely be sure to tell all not to miss visiting the gallery when they visit...
