So glad I resisted the temptation for such a long time whenever I started my favourite Bay Trail walk here - to look up online why this suburb was named Black Rock instead of Red Bluff after the stunning iron oxide cliffs nearby.. Finally got to visit the place that held the answer..You can't miss the location - massive majestic Moreton Bay Figs & signage is highly visible on Ebden Ave. What a magnificent home it is! Kudos to the Friends of Black Rock volunteers who meet & greet visitors in period costume & with abundance of good humour 👍🏼👍🏼. The optional Devonshire tea at Tamar's Tearoom (book ahead for this) is excellent value for $15. Special mention: The flavoursome home made jam to go with tasty hot scones in baskets, attentive tea/coffee service with pretty doilies & floral cups. The period details of this holiday home built in 1856 for Charles Ebden - parliamentarian & first Auditor General of Vic has been painstakingly restored especially the floor to ceiling wallpapers & the stone walls..(I won't give too much away). Amazing to find such a home surviving intact especially in sought after bayside suburbia - I almost believe the lingering spirit of servant Annie watches over it✨️...Open on first Sun of the month - tour runs every 30 mins from 1 to 4pm - donate to continue this heritage for future generations. Allow an hour with Devonshire tea. There is also a paranormal/ghost tour - enquire.

Lovely time visiting the house. A very interesting history. It was smaller than we would have expected, and lot of furniture, items etc don't originally belong to the house, but very interesting none the less, and will put together, with their own stories! Friendly helpful and very well informed 'staff' dressed as in the day, with wonderful stories, including tantalising ghost stories! There's also a paranormal tour you can take at night, or book in for a seance!!! 😱 Apparently the 2nd most haunted building in Melbourne! Easy to get to and park, with an enjoyable Devonshire tea, we had a great time!

Wonderful afternoon tea experience. A hidden gem that only shines on first Sunday of the month. Run by volunteers with passion and love. 秘密隐藏打卡地点,每个月的第一个星期天才会开门,需要预约。里面古香古色,手磨咖啡,原香原味。门票包含茶点。

We had intended on using the community gardens infront of Black Rock House for a small picnic with friends when we were approached by a staff member advising we needed to have booked and paid to use the park!? The staff member then came back a second time and threatened to call the council on us unless we gave a 'donation' of $200 to Black Rock House right away. Appaulled a community centre would try to blackmail locals, horrendous! Let alone take supposedly council own money for their own pockets. Will certainly not be going back for a tour of the house with staff like that! Steer clear all. To make matters worse I then found out you only have to register for groups of 50 or more, not for a small picnic celebrating a baby shower with 15 people! Was so shocked someone would try to upset a heavily pregnant women celebrating with a...

Went here recently and the place was absolutely awful. firstly, it's a small house and not too interesting, only can spend 30 mins here, maybe 1 hour maximam. Also, it's only open in a awkward time.

when i went, there were these group of teenagers filming somethings. it was already a small area and the students weren't very respectful to public or staff and not wary of surroundings. i think they should've done their filming some other time when there were no tours so they wouldn't interrupt. it made walking around the house really inconvenient.

I wouldn't reccomend this place to people and definitley...
