We have been here previously and had some really good experiences. Unfortunatley this weekend was not amazing. We waited for a table for 1 hour as they do not do bookings (despite doing prebooked groupon deals that weekend which the workers did not tell us about when we attemoed to book earlier). This was fine as we spent time doing a tasting. The wines were really nice but despite paying $7 per tasting some of our guests only got through 3-4 of the 7 tastings as the man serving us was not very attentive. The positive to this was that we were not charged the full price as some of us bought bottles at the cellar door.
At the restaurant area the waitress we had was quite blunt and rude. She made a big fuss about us prepaying $1 for chilli oil before she would bring it out (despite us already paying for hundreds of dollars worth of food and wine). She stated it wasn't in the forefront of her mind as we had not paid the $1 yet.
The quality of food was not up to scratch for the price. Pizzas were pre made so we could not adjust them to suit vegetarain dietry requirements. The lasagna was very hard and inedible so we sent it back. The potatoes were quite oily and not crispy at all.
I'd recommend visiting a smaller winery in the area with more character and better service- something I'd say tgallant is highly lacking. It seems as though the buisness owner is fairly far removed from the day to day activity of...
Read moreI enjoy visiting wineries on the Mornington Peninsula, having explored most of them over the years. Typically, these visits offer the chance to savor great wines while learning about the winery's history and production. A good winery experience generally includes quality food and wine with a reasonable markup for service and ambiance.
Unfortunately, my visit to this winery on Sunday fell short of these expectations. My partner and I ordered a cheese platter, a meat platter, and a bottle of T'Gallant Imogen Pinot Gris. This wine retails online for $25.90 but was priced at $68 in the self-serve restaurant. Adding a 10% Sunday surcharge brought the cost to $75—a markup of nearly $50 on a single bottle of wine.
The food platters, which cost over $80 in total, were equally disappointing. The produce seemed to be of supermarket quality, and we estimated the actual value of the items to be around $20. Combined with the apparent understaffing, we were left questioning what the 10% surcharge was even for.
Given these experiences, I can't recommend this winery. There are plenty of other wineries on the Peninsula offering better quality, value, and service. If you enjoy their wine, I suggest purchasing it from a bottle shop and pairing it with your own selection of gourmet items for a picnic—you'll save money and likely have a more...
Read moreThe food was great, wine was great. The service was awful. When I arrived the venue was not busy. Any question our group had was answered, but the tone/demeanour of staff left the group feeling awkward and like a nuisance to the venue. We were proudly assured multiple times that the venue would be at full capacity and would be very busy within an hour. Staff were correct, by midday the venue was full. Later on a drink order was incorrectly brought out by a staff member, the details are not important but the situation was made very awkward and by this point we couldn’t wait to leave the venue. No single incident has lead to my review, I’ve never been so amazed at poor service it was almost unreal. I said to my partner we should visit again to see if it was just a one off, then I saw the online reviews. As a venue you have a lot of 1 star reviews, every single one that I have read relates to service. Your 5 star reviews are mentioning wine and food, which are both excellent. You reply to every one star review explaining you are taking it seriously. How seriously and urgently are you taking it though. Each weekend you are losing multiple repeat customers, plus the opportunity to upsell your wine to happy customers. Business is through the roof at the moment, but one day your venue won’t be at full capacity and you will be...
