Stumbling off the main road in search of something different to the high volume, low interest vineyards that seem to abound in the Hunter at the moment- we pulled into this magnificent gem. This gorgeous boutique vineyard run by genuine wine lovers, really made our three day trip to Hunter special. We spend an hour or so with John and John who talked though every wine, not just the type of grape but where they were grown the age of the vines and answered a myriad of questions with genuine enjoyment and interest. His love of the craft of sharing the wine narrative wasn’t lost on us, this was much more than a wine tasting, as John said every seat tells a story and every wine was delicious from exposition to conclusion. You have to go on a waiting list to be a member here, and it’s blatantly obvious why, it’s just so good and memorable. Highly recommend this experience and the opportunity to meet some brilliant wine makers, some of the best in the Hunter without doubt. Highly recommend the Parish Shiraz, the dolce bubbly and you have to try the fortified, it’s to die for. Make sure you book, it’s worth the effort. Cheers.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is by far one of the most amazing wineries to visit in the Hunter. We come to the Hunter every year to tick wineries off our list and we always come back to Thomas Allen. Staff are incredible, they are extremely personable and super friendly, helpful and attentive. We have had the pleasure of having John II as our most recent wine tasting guide and he was so kind, knowledgeable and made our experience (like every year we come here) feel like home. The scenery is beautiful, you can come here and sit out in their open alfresco area and enjoy the view whilst sipping on your wine. Great selection of whites and reds with great depth of flavour. If you love a red, would recommend the Alasdair, Encore and even the chilled Boss. Will always return to Thomas Allen and would never hesitate to recommend to anyone.

This winery's focus is on making great wines for their members which means everything is good and there's less emphasis on touristy things like producing wines from a particular vineyard and more focus on sourcing the best grapes available. They also do a lovely sparking shiraz which is recommended. The staff are all great and will sit down and chat like old mates while you do your tasting. Update: we came back again and it's still great! However as a warning, their amazing 1985 Negociant Series Liqueur Riesling is down to about 1000 bottles. This series was only made in 1985, so once it's gone, there's no replacement. Stock up now!

What a fantastic gem of the Hunter Valley.

Was recommend the ‘H’ Hotel to visit there #1 recommendation of a vineyard to must visit in the valley. In which, I and the group could not agree more on after the visit.

We were greeted in open arms by Ben and was allocated the magnificent connoisseur John.

John was an expert and was ever so kind to experience some ‘off-the-tasting menu’ selection. In which, incurred trying the vineyards cleanskin selection. Which was the best cleanskin white I have ever tried! Ended buying a case of the cleanskin and we were on our way.

Thank you John and Ben for such a fantastic experience!
