We next moved onto the "test tube" part of the tour, but not as you might expect. The Hunter Distillery provided each person with about 10-15 test tubes of vodka shots, each with their own unique flavour that was always very different to the next. We were started off with the subtle flavours before moving into the harder stuff. For those not wanting to continue with the shots, they teach you a special way of tasting vodka without getting drunk. That is to put your thumb on top of the tube, give it a little shake, smell your thumb and lick it. This allows you to appreciate the flavour and then if you wish, you can down the rest. The vodka sampling included Apple, Caramel, Chilli, Chocolate, Ginger and Vanilla. If you think that's interesting, wait until you see the schnapps and liqueur range. Schnapps sampling included blueberry, butterscotch, chilli and choc mint. Liqueur sampling included choc orange, coconut rum, ginger, hazelnut, lime, mango and passion fruit.
We were both quite pleased with the mango liqueur, but overwhelmed with the Ginger vodka which gave us the impression of drinking ginger beer, yet more adult friendly.
Very few dared to try the Chilli vodka, and maybe it was all the alcohol talking but Matt put a brave face on and tried the notorious vodka. This was said to be rated higher than 10 on the chilli index, but has since been tuned down to an 8/10 and apparently is like having pure Thai chilli oil. Matt tested the waters by sampling it on his thumb before continuing to shot the rest. There wasn't much of a reaction even though the presenter emphasized that it can take anywhere between 10 – 15 minutes for the heat to die down. This was one of his...
Read moreInitially in walking in it took a while to be served. There was only 4 of us, so not a group and we arrived about 15 minutes before they closed. . There was an obnoxious man behind the counter finishing off with some customers who were doing a few purchases and his manner was quite off putting esp that he wouldn't know what visitors would've taken offence to or not. . He could see we were waiting to be served and eventually acknowledged our existence and commented about that they closed in 15 minutes and he made us feel that we shouldn't have arrived at that time. If we are not to walk in at that time then close your doors early. We visited there on Saturday 25 August 2018 and he was serving at the tasting table with another few girls who were ignoring us for a while as well, however he was extremely rude. I would like to officially complain about him. He shouldn't be in customer service or be taught how to work under pressure without being rude
When we did get served, we Loved the variety of vodka and liqueurs. The lady serving was very helpful as to what to mix them with and was quite happy for us to try any that we wanted. .We did make purchases, it's just he was so rude and it leaves a bad taste in your mouth that he made us feel like we did something wrong.... 3.5 stars only...
Read moreAwesome product.. However the man that worked there made us never want to come back by the way he spoke to an elder woman who worked there. We had spoken to a man on the phone and explained we would be running 15 minutes late which was said to be fine and upon arriving the lady was super friendly and moved tables and chairs around for us to apply to covid-19 restrictions. The man then went off at her and said in front of everyone they can't sit there! That doesn't aply to restrictions. Do they know this lady?? No.. well then they can't sit there. It wasn't exactly what was said it was how. It was very loud and condescending and the lady looked super enbarrassed. My partner and I understand it is a stressful time at the moment. Everyone is stressed but it still doesn't give you locense to speak so disrespectfully towards someone. It could have been said much nicer for example, thanks for moving those chairs however they will have a to wait a little as it still doesn't apply to the 1.5 metre distancing. Both my partner and I felt really uncomfortable and bad for the lady... Talk to ypur colleauges better in future pleas and...
