This place is managed by a not-for-profit and run by volunteers. The old house has its own interesting history, and the winery is also quite nice, including its gardens and bamboos. When you think about the amount of work required of winery owners to get something like this off the ground, it is an amazing job the volunteers have been doing here over the years. They don't have their own wine-makers, but use the service of nearby wineries to assist with the process, although the grapes every year do get hand-picked by volunteers.They have a few offerings including Port. If they had more commercialised operations e.g. a cantina or cafe setup I am certain they would get a lot more foot traffic. It's a nice spot for some wine tasting, a picnic (cheese platter and wine by the glass and bottle can be purchased) and learning about the history of the area. Read moreFabulous day at the open day today - entertainment included singers, dancing, and a drama production. A range of stalls sold plants, soaps as well as information stands such as the local observatory club and maritime museum. The historic house has an amazing collection of photos and memorabilia from past owners, and the premises are being cared for and maintained by the Douglas Vale volunteers.
