Situated just south of Sydney - in the Royal National Park, Wottamolla Beach is an extremely pretty little ocean-facing beach with an inland body of shallow water - fed by fresh waterfalls. With nearby Garie Beach being unavailable until mid 2025 due to road repairs, Wottamolla Beach is now the popular place to visit and is recommended by Park Ranger at the Visitor Center. The carpark is often filled to capacity by midday on sunny days and the clear turquoise waves at the beach give the impressions of a tropical quay. The inland body of water is shallow and looks like a safe place for children to play - without the risk of marine stingers or "large fish". The ocean-front beach is also popular with bathers and is both picturesque and clean.
$12 Vehicle Entry for the National Park (2025). 5 separate Levels of Parking (which still fills up). Public Bathrooms available near the lower Carpark. Picnic Areas available above the beach.
CONS: No disabled access for wheelchairs when approaching the beach areas from the carparks. Steep cement inclines and stairs below the picnic area and towards the beach.
Dogs, pets and domestic animals are NOT permitted in NSW national parks and reserves, except for certified assistance animals.
Ticks are quite common in the Royal National Park and can be found on the grass in all the camping areas here. There's a LOT of (parasitic) ticks at Wottamolla Beach - which were visible on ALL of the lizards we saw, with a mixture of Paralysis Ticks and mostly Bush Ticks (aka Dog Ticks). Show caution and stick to the tracks. Check yourself and your clothes when returning home to prevent harm to your pets. Note the ticks in the ear of the...
Read moreWattamolla Falls is a significant landmark along the Coastal Walk in the Royal National Park. Supported by a beach, lagoon, lookouts and a picnic area, it’s a great place to start a day out. Access to the waterfall is restricted in some places, but that shouldn’t detract from what is a serenely beautiful spot. Wattamolla Beach Picnic area is at the end of Wattamolla Road within the Royal National Park. Sir Bertram Stevens Drive runs through the National Park. Travelling south, Wattamolla Rd is on your left, shortly after Bundeena Rd. From the carpark follow the sign north to the falls. A small path runs behind the falls to a path that eventually ends up at Marley Beach. You only need to go a few metres then take the hidden path on the right. Now you’re at the lookout spot. The rock is amazing as you have an beautiful view of the sea and a kind of River behind the rock. People there are making noise to encourage you to jump and have this scary but funny experience. There is an $12 dollar entry fee for parking your car (is not expensive for all you will get in this park) anywhere within the national park. Pay in person at the Visitor Centre, Audley. There are also toll booths scattered around that are open during peak periods. There are several parking bays at the Wattamolla Picnic Area and the entrance to the beach / falls. The area gets busy weekends and school holidays, so plan...
Read moreGreat place to go with the family, friends or even on you're own. It's very relaxing within the park there's plenty for you to do, there's walking tracks, lookouts, lots of wildlife and a lagoon that's quite shallow, while you have the beach a short jump away from the lagoon. Up top where the car park is you have BBQ's, toilets, showers, taps, park info signs and a few other things.
The only problem I have with Wattamolla is that the car park has very limited parking spots more so disabled parking spots so if you want to get a car space then you need to get there early in the morning because by mid day there won't be any left which can be a hassle driving around the carpark trying to find a spot, there's also NO Motorbike parking and not many places around the carpark you can safely park you're motorbike without it either falling over due to the grass/ground being soft or parking close to a car due to limited spaces & a car hitting your bike.
Other then that it's a great place to spend the day or even...
