Gorgeous little zoo and stunning natural surroundings. The forestry around and throughout is beautiful with native local wildlife too. What really stood out was the cleanliness and the naturalistic design of all the enclosures. The animals had excellent enrichment inside their homes with ample space to hide, play and explore. Nocturnal species could be viewed through hidden visibility windows which was cute! The animals are content and having visited a lot of zoos they show much more natural and relaxed behaviours than other zoos which is exceptional. I loved how many of the large natural trees were left and the enclosures built around them- giving the monkeys fantastic climbing big areas. All the primate species were visible happy and comfy, sprawled out on the grass grooming and relaxing was adorable. The cafe is small but has a good range for very quick service. They have the BEST hot chips we've ever had at any Cafe! We also did the animal encounter with the Emporer Tamarins which was quite magical and a really special experience. The keeper was brilliant with his talk while we were in there. The staff go above and beyond to help, big shout out to Ashleigh and Tiany who helped us as we were travelling in. Accessibility is fairly good- if you use mobility aids or wheelchairs there may be some areas slightly less accessible in steep areas but all around fairly good on that aspect given the natural layout. We thought it was perfect size and could really enjoy the entire zoo without being rushed or the day getting long.
Only small feedback We'd recommend: Would be great if the website could have updates to say what animals are not on display for longer known periods (eg. Recently birthed young or off-exhibit entirely) as we travelled a fair way to see 2 in particular that where not available when we arrived and hadn't been for a little while. 1000% agree for the welfare of the animal needing to be off display, was just disappointing if you travelled and didn't know in advance. Other websites will advise animals off for longer periods. Safety- needs to be an overhead sign on the little underpass walkway under the train tracks as you walk through or a yellow line painted above. The chap next to us hit his head, hubby ducked, but taller people need to duck their head.
Definitely recommend this zoo and is a great day out. One of the best for cleanliness I've seen in all...
Read moreI had a great day with the family, it was perfect for a family of four with two children under 10. We opted to take the train for the extra $5 and it's a very slow and relaxing train journey, although it's no quicker than walking. There is lots of animal enclosures to see, and four separate shows during the day, but don't expect the big performance , these shows are much more personal and close up, not to mention very informative. There was the added opportunity at the end of all the shows to get close up and interactive with the animals too. We also opted to pay a little extra for a personal ten minutes interaction with the Dingos and the kids loved it, you can also pay the same fee and do the same with many of the other animals, so it's perfect for animal lovers or small children to get a close up and hands on experience. There is a small cafe in the middle and you can buy got and cold drinks and food at reasonable prices, but still slightly higher than if you had bought your own . All in all a very good day out. I dropped a star because the park was a little tired and in need of a little TLC plus the rain forest walk was closed. But this really didn't detract from a good day out, I only include it to be totally honest about the day. I will definitely be recommending it as a great value and...
Read moreGreat little zoo. It's fairly compact, so not too much walking between exhibits. I purchased my ticket at the Big Pineapple and rode the train down. The animals all appeared content, and the enclosures were large and clean, with plenty of enrichment. I loved that the wallabies could come out to the people but had plenty of 'out of bounds' area where guests are not allowed. I didn't see any animal food for sale which I think is good. The enclosures are well designed and I saw most of the animals, even if they were resting. There is a cafe for the humans, or also a cafe at the pineapple. Both were very busy when I was there as it was the first Saturday of school holidays and the Big Pineapple had only recently reopened. I waited 30mins for the train down. I could have walked in with no wait but I really like trains. There is no guarantee of a free spot for the ride back. I didn't even look as the walk from the cassowary enclosure, back to the pineapple, is as short as to the train platform.....or so it seemed to me. I really enjoyed the couple of hours I spent here. It's a bit steep in area's so not wheelchair friendly but a stroller would be okay if you don't mind working the...
