There is no admission fee to visit this location. The harbour walk from Sydney to Balmoral passes this lookout. It’s also possible to drive and park near this location. There’s a bus service that operates along Middle Head Road - the bus stop is about 800 metres from the lookout. At this location, you can read plaques that highlight the location’s history:

“Australia’s Aboriginal tribes attached great importance to some particular headland…to practice their ceremonies, settle their disputes, and arrange matters appertaining to the welfare of the tribe. Georges Head was often the scene of these meetings” - Town and Country Journal, 7 October 1871.

“Port Jackson I believe to be, without exception, the finest and most extensive harbour in the universe, and at the same time the most secure” - John White, surgeon-general, First Fleet, 26 January 1788.

With 150 years of military history, as well as outstanding Sydney Harbour views, a visit to Georges Head is a must for military history buffs. The Georges Head battery is located near Mosman, on the northern side of Sydney Harbour.

Explore military fortifications from the Second World War (WW2) era and take a walk around the headland to see the observation tower and WW2 gun emplacements. You can examine the parapet cut into sandstone at the start of the 19th century to ward off a feared French invasion, or explore a series of interlinking tunnels and passageways that were excavated after the withdrawal of British colonial troops...

Georges Head has a commanding view of the Heads and most of Sydney Harbour. The artillery battery was constructed in 1871 with six barbette gun pits. The gunners were housed in a barracks sandstone building built in 1873. The Fed Govt removed the Army and handed over the barracks to the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust in 2002. They have leased all the buildings and the former sandstone officers mess is now an...

Great 180 degs views of the harbour, north and south Head, eastern suburb beaches and the city. Some great information boards showing a map of the harbour the different inlets and beaches etc. Nice place to sit and have a picnic, some shaded spots. Relatively recently refurbished. No amenities or parking, best to get to by foot from Chowder Bay

Georges Head Lookout is a great vantage point that is a little difficult to get to, but entirely worth the experience. Once you're up there, you'll forget that the climb was difficult. Views are spectacular over the bay, Sydney harbour and the city's skyline in the distance. Bring a good camera and a good lens if you're into photography.
