Great atmosphere. That's where it started. We called ahead of time for a birthday brunch requesting a view if possible.
But it started to roll down hill from arriving. Parking is overpriced and difficult. A single disabled spot is outside the cafe for setting down and picking up only.
Upon arriving we were bluntly told the view wasn't possible. This was despite the fact that a lot of people were vacating their seats near the view.
We asked if we could sit near the view given given that we had called ahead and that there appeared to be a lot of space. We were told that it was reserved for bookings for high tea, and that the next booking was expected in 30 minutes. Seemed like we were being treated like out of towners because we were there for "brunch".
On our trip there it was windy and cold (despite summer being so close). They had blankets there for that reason, however they were given to the guests having high tea.
The breakfast then had a lot riding on it.
The breakfast scene in Sydney is well ahead of the curve. Most decent places in Sydney offer all day breakfast items aligned with our "brunch". It's why Australian cafes are popping up in New York, London and Tokyo. Decent espresso and a decent egg or two on smashed avo. It's not too hard.
So opening the menu I noted clearly the word "lunch". Breakfast for record is actually called "Morning" on their menu and vanishes along with anything that could resemble "brunch".
So this was an anti-brunch cafe. Massive, massive strike! What they do have is a burger for $25.
That covers the other side. The Sydney burger scene is really improving. Decent burgers with high quality medium rare patties. For $25 I thought this was going to be good.
Not a chance. Small, tasteless. Such a shame. My family had the fish pie. It was tasty, but once again overpriced for what it was.
I write a lot of reviews, enough to get local guide.
It's disappointing that most are positive and complementary. Disappointing as well that I am a local from the area and there are many more cafes in Mosman 1/2 the price that outdo Burnt Orange in every way except their windy outlook.
Unfortunately Burnt Orange needs a significant change to get even 2 stars.
Food should not be so overpriced. The staff should allow first come, first served (and for the view). Staff shouldn't be so rude.
And once we finally got to see the view, we got a fake "sorry" from the waitress to add insult to injury.
In the spot we stood (among many vacant tables), we realised the view wasn't such a big deal after all. It was a view of eucalypts.
And I can get that and brunch...
Read moreI recently visited the Burnt Orange Cafe with high hopes, based on the positive recommendations of my friends who had been there before. However, my experience was nothing short of a disaster. I cannot emphasize enough how disappointed and frustrated I am with the level of service and overall incompetence displayed by the staff.
Firstly, we were made to wait for a staggering 45 minutes before our order was even acknowledged. The staff seemed oblivious to the fact that we were patiently waiting, and their lack of attention was evident from the start. When we finally mustered the courage to confront them, they had the audacity to act as though they had no recollection of our order whatsoever. It was as if we were invisible and our presence inconsequential.
To add insult to injury, as time ticked away, they began bringing random orders to our table that clearly didn't belong to us. It was not only confusing but also a clear indication of their disorganized and careless approach to customer service. This lack of attention to detail is unacceptable, particularly when customers are eagerly anticipating a pleasant dining experience.
After a frustrating 50 minutes of waiting and still not receiving a single item from our order, we decided that enough was enough. We left the cafe feeling utterly neglected and unimportant. It is disheartening to think that Burnt Orange Cafe could disregard its customers to such an extent.
I have always believed that customer satisfaction should be a top priority for any establishment, especially one that relies on positive word-of-mouth. Unfortunately, my experience at Burnt Orange Cafe has shattered that belief entirely. I strongly urge potential patrons to reconsider visiting this establishment, as the staff's incompetence and apathy towards customers will only result in disappointment and wasted time.
Burnt Orange Cafe, you have failed miserably in providing even the most basic level of customer service. It is my sincere hope that you take this feedback seriously and make significant improvements to avoid subjecting others to such an...
Read moreI am dairy free and pregnant which means my diet is very limited, when I booked, I had put this down so the kitchen knew ahead of time. We went to Burnt Orange for High Tea as well. Upon arrival I was told the following: the menu does not cater for dairy allergies so I would be given a salad and desert option instead when I explained I couldn’t eat the salad, the manager informed me that there was nothing he could do after pushing and saying this wasn’t good enough, I was given a normal menu to pick from and then told that the kitchen was closed so I could eat anything hot I was then told that I should have called to confirm my allergy and dietary needs with them I ended up having a shockingly dry and cold chicken sandwich and a dessert that was mediocre at best while the people I was with got to have the planned high tea menu.
While this was all happening, our teas arrived. One of the teas to the table did not have tea leaves in it. We were then told that it definitely did. It did not, we had to prove to them by opening up the pot and showing them that there was nothing in it.
Another person at our table was also given seafood when it was also written on the booking that she was allergic. She was told to just leave it and not eat it.
Never in my life have I ever heard of a place that doesn’t make a single adjustment or attempts to make a single adjustment for an allergy order. Especially when they had 3 weeks from when the booking was made to our arrival.
What makes this even worse, the manager said he had come in at 8 and saw that we have dietary and allergy requirements and still did nothing about it.
The manager not only didn’t handle the situation well at all but he was rude and continually cut me off when ever I tried to push back on what he was telling me.
All in all, our experience is now something we laugh about because we cannot believe how bad the service and care was. It’s only saving grace was the fact that the location is beautiful.
I will not be going back to Burnt Orange for any event nor do I recommend it...
