20 kilometres south of Albany on Western Australia's south coast is where you will find Misery Beach, a small, secluded and very beautiful beach perfect for swimming, snorkelling, surfing & fishing.

Misery Beach (approximately 200 metres long) is situated on Menang Noongar boodja, it's secluded beach in a protected cove. For the Menang people, the beach was a prime location for spear fishing and camping, as well as for catching kangaroos.

The beach is framed by a dramatic granite outcrops โ€“ at the eastern end, a mammoth wall rises steeply from the ocean. Squeaky, pristine white sand and stunning clear blue waters although it has an intriguing history.

The beach was named because of the areaโ€™s historic whaling industry: with the whaling station less than a kilometre down the coast, offal and blood would wash onto shore and stain both the water and sands red, as well as attract sharks. Thankfully, the station ceased operation in 1978, and the beach has since become a favourite for locals and visitors. The beach was also a hideaway for escaped convicts who looted ships along the south coast of WA.

Each year Tourism Australia awards the best beach in Australia, which is a pretty big deal in a country that has more beaches than any other in the...

If ever there was a place that doesnโ€™t reflect its name this is it MISERY BEACH It is the complete opposite itโ€™s a beautiful place that makes you want to smile and be happy The sheer beauty of this beach and its surroundings is so spectacular really The colour of the water and the steep granite cliffs flowing down into the water side makes this place uniquely attractive Boarded by a Sandy white beach this place is just so breathtaking and perfect for a day out with the family Itโ€™s name should be more like Spectacular Beach which would be a better reflection of the location Beaches like this need a lot of infrastructure support to allow the public to go and enjoy themselves at these remote locations so well done to all of the funding bodies involved and the asset management maintenance people Itโ€™s worth a visit WA public you will love...

There are a few beaches found off of the Frenchman Road in Torndirrup National Park, including Misery Beach. Take the Misery Beach Rd turnoff. There is a small carpark where you find the beach, which in the past was known for the red stains, an unfortunate result of being near the old Whaling Station just a few hundred metres west.

These days the whaling station has long ceased operating and the beach seems to have been transformed into a pristine spot with beautiful sand meeting crystal clear water. It is a gorgeous little beach, there were only two other people there when we visited recently as well. Misery Beach is a lovely spot to find for picture taking and probably a dip in the water during...

Misery Beach in Albany is an absolute hidden gem! With its pristine white sand, crystal-clear waters, and dramatic coastal cliffs, it offers a breathtaking and peaceful escape from the crowds. The secluded nature of the beach makes it feel like your own private paradise, perfect for swimming, relaxing, or simply soaking in the stunning scenery. However, keep in mind that there are no public toilets or showers, and parking is very limitedโ€”so plan accordingly. Despite these minor inconveniences, the untouched beauty and tranquility of Misery Beach make it a must-visit spot in Albany!
