The Wagga Wagga Botanic Gardens are still a must visit when I pass through the town. Very well maintained and lots to look at. This site combines a botanical gardens and a small zoo. The garden is divided into several sections: a native garden; a succulent garden; a rose garden and more. It is not really world-class, to be honest, but it certainly makes a decent place for a wander.
The second half of the park is a zoo. The focus is on native animals, with kangaroos, emus and wombats represented. There is also a wandering band of peacocks, which likes to rest on top of the net roofing. Overall, it is basic but will appeal to kids. It located in the Wagga Wagga suburb of Turvey Park on a 20 hectare site on the south western slopes of Willans Hill Reserve. Access to the gardens is via Macleay Street near the corner of Lord Baden Powell Drive. There is a camellia garden, a tree chapel, Island and Bamboo Garden, native flora section, Shakespearean garden and cactus and succulent garden. In 20 hectares you can amble around a camellia garden, Shakespearean garden, cactus and succulent garden, native flora section, island and bamboo garden, to name a small few.
Crowning the camellia garden is the intricately painted and decorated Chinese pavilion, a bicentennial gift from Wagga Wagga’s sister city, Kunming in China.

Read moreWhat an amazing botanic gardens, this one was not to big compared to some others but the Chinese structures were stunning and very colourful, there was a small but beautiful rainforest walk as well.
The highlight of these gardens is by far the community zoo that is attached though, and it is FREE!!! 😱 The only other free zoo we have come across so far was at Rockhampton, who doesn’t like free 😋
