Most of the animals are overcrowded or simply in too-small enclosures with no enrichment or anything to do. Some animals don't even have shade or clean water. The birds are in dark, often dirty cages and most are very visibly depressed. The barnyard animals suffer the worst, with the chickens barely having room to move, the guinea pigs being dark, dirty, overcrowded and have had parts of their ears bitten off, i.e. cannibalized, by other guinea pigs, likely due to stress.
The larger barnyard animals are kept solitary in two small pens. Last time I went, there was a young calf in one still crying for his mother. There is also a pig pen barely big enough to fit them as they get older, with three piglets at any one time. I've noticed that they seem to disappear once they get older, and are replaced with new piglets.
I would not recommend going here, let alone donating to it. (Especially since it's government-funded anyhow.) There are no rare mammals, and apart from one solitary deer, no non-native wild mammals. I don't know enough about birds to 100% confirm the same, but I'm pretty darn sure it is. It serves zero conservation purpose, and very limited educational purpose. The main thing your kids will learn from visiting is that it's okay to treat other animals this...
Read moreAmazing! The Wagga Wagga Zoo & Aviary sports a wide range of animals and birds. I cannot believe that they do all of this and still manage to maintain free entrance! Free! This is very generous and I would highly recommend everyone donate at least the change they have in their wallet because what they give us here is amazing and well worth it!
The dingo's are playful and cheeky. The wombat is grumpy as they tend to be. They even many free roaming peacocks. Some their splendid blue and others a vivid ivory white and others have splotches of albinism throughout making them very unique. There are birds of all shapes, sizes and colours.
The coffee shop next door is also excellent and I would be remiss not to recommend their doughnuts.
This is great for children and adults alike and I will certainly be returning for more with my family.
I gave Wagga Wagga Zoo & Aviary a 5 out of 5 stars. Stay tuned for my...
Read moreGreat, fun, FREE experience! Took the kids out for a Sunday activity (Cuper 8, Lysha 7 and Jungle 6) after their mother refused to do anything except lay in the couch even though it was her weekend. No way I was going to force my children to stay at home because of their ungrateful mother so took them to the animal park as a last minute activity and boy am I glad I did!
The kids loved being able to feed the goats (didn’t see that there is actually free food to give the animals at the lovely cafe but I just tore some leaves off a nearby tree because goats will eat anything) as well as the donkeys. All of the birds were great to see even when one of them relieved themselves on Lysha, we all had a great laugh!
The biggest hit were the pigs however! How cute!
Will be going back again for sure, next time bringing some bread to feed the ducks....
