Southern Gateway Centre — Attraction in Wollongong City Council

Unpleasant experience with the only good thing being the views. Drove to have a nice breakfast at the cafe only to be disappointed. Waited 2 mins for staff to see us at the entrance and take us to our table and ended up having to seat ourselves ( there were 4-5 staff and only 5 people in the cafe). Staff only approached us to move our seats in an empty restaurant because the restaurant and cafes are split entities.

It doesn’t stop at bad customer service, ordered our food, an eggs Benedict, smashed avo with poached eggs and a chicken schnitzel burger. The chicken was acceptable but the portions were small and design was unappealing, negatives that the taste sadly did not account for. Tea came without sugar which we had to stand up ourselves to get and avoid the mango smoothie. The best way to describe it is a bunch of ingredients blended together into an inedible sludge. Cutlery was not even provided prior to our meals.

We stopped at the café for the first time today, expecting average food at tourist prices (we were hungry!) and were blown away by the quality of our meals and the value. We ordered from the takeaway menu, which is quite a bit less expensive than sitting in the restaurant, but we hadn't wanted fries and whatever extras come with them anyway. My grilled barramundi sandwich was among the best fish sandwiches I've ever had anywhere. Fish was tender, generous portion and full of flavour without being fishy. Perfect with tartare sauce and greens in a seeded ciabatta bun. It was a large sandwich but I finished it because it was so good. My husband got the chicken Caesar salad and loved his just as much.

The view is worth a stop and the lady at the information centre was helpful and friendly.

If you want salmonella poisoning this would be the place to go! My order: eggs Benedict. What I got: RAW EGGS. I sent the eggs back. The waitress returned, "the chef asked if you wanted your eggs well done". WOW! What a slap in the face that was....... No I want my eggs cooked properly! I love a runny egg NOT an uncooked one! The egg white was still see through. She offered me another item off the menu to which I responded that I would never eat here again! The food & hygiene practices within this establishment need a good look into. Very unsafe and unhygienic.
