As we are only just emerging from the "COVID-18 Ice Age" (Post Lockdown). This may not necessarily reflect what this business is like during regular normal business levels.
However I loved it. My wife and I were welcomed warmly and promptly. The seating while limited due to the current restrictions, we had no problem finding seating. The interior while relatively plain, was pleasant, clean and had expansive Windows looking out on to the rear walkway and the view down towards the coastline if Bulli/Thirroul.
The new Government requirements were explained politely as we were requested to complete a visitation record.
I was very impressed with the Russian (sorry that I thought you were Scandinavian/German) male staff member. Your service, polite and professional manner impressed bith myself and my wife.
We ordered the Salt & Pepper Squid. I felt that it rated as one of the freshest, most tender that I have had. The presentation on an decorative plate and overall presentation when served was quite appealing. I acknowledge that having Sweet Chilli Sauce with this meal may not appeal to everyone's taste, but I loved it. However I would probably suggest that you might consider other accompaniment options, such as Aioli, Mayonnaise etc to suite your customers varied palates. The mixed lettuce salad, slice of cucumber and tomato wedge was fresh and tasty. While there wasn't an abundance of Squid (but it was sufficient) it sat on a bed if fresh, crisp and tasty chips. Overall I would describe it as a slightly upmarket take on a basic dish. With a slight gourmet flair and presentation to it.
It may be a minor thing for most, but I particularly appreciated the removal of the central column edge of the lemon wedge before being served. I was grateful for that, as it helps me avoid spraying the next tables occupants with lemon juice.
Overall a great experience and meal. I will definitely drop in again if we are back...
Read moreDisappointing lack of empathy and hospitality displayed by the manageress on a cold, dismal day defying the concept of hospitality as the outdoor dining area was not fit for purpose.
My seventy-three year old father, our small Pug-like dog and I were promptly ejected from the nearly empty (warm and dry) indoor dining area moments after we found a table in a quiet corner. At the time there was just one couple (who’d arrived at the same time) sharing the dining room.
Dad and I were pounced upon by the zealous manageress. We were told to use the outdoor dining area despite the freezing cold exposed and wet conditions. The tables outside were all wet. It was ridiculous. My father is seventy-three years old and susceptible to a chill from exposure if we’d dined outside.
We ended up standing outside in the cold and wet procrastinating a few minutes before getting back in the car in order to remain warm and dry.
We decided not to order lunch as we’d be unable to eat in the car without making a mess. Plus we needed to have a break from the car - our reason for the rest-stop in the first place.
Words uttered to the effect “No, you can’t dine inside as we get complaints”. 1) There was only one other “couple” in the dining room at the time and; 2) The outdoor dining areas were not fit for purpose as we’d be at risk of exposure from the poor weather.
As I did not want to leave empty handed because we had driven so far, I ended up ordering two Italian Hot Chocolates instead of the intended lunch and drove down to Thirroul for lunch by the seaside.
The Italian Hot Chocolate - like the poor hospitality - is awful. Bland. Lindt and even Max Brenner do a better Hot Chocolate.
Is a zero-star...
Read moreFool me once, but never again! The food was amateurish yet priced at a premium. Your money is best spent elsewhere. We ordered two dishes: the garlic prawns and palak paneer (cubes of paneer cheese with spinach sauce). The prawn flavour was nice, but the prawns were as tough as old leather. It was like it cooked by someone on their first try. That was not enough to write a review or even complain, but the paneer dish, and subsequent comments from the waiter, made me feel like I was just scammed. The palak paneer had just two tiny pieces of paneer, each smaller than dice. I figured it was close to 9grams of paneer, and based on the paneer I have bought from Costco, that’s about 13 cents worth. They call this a main dish. My guess is they had run out of paneer and tried to pass this off to someone that didn’t know better. I complained to the waiter and he laughed, perhaps thinking I was not serious. I had to say “no, I am not joking, this is the total paneer in the dish”. He took it away, leaving me thinking he would either adjust the bill, or bring something back. He did neither. This bit takes the cake: He said “come back next time and I will look after you”. Why would he not look after it there and then? Why would someone come back after not receiving what they ordered and made to pay full price? I was being polite, so I didn’t offer an argument, but that just makes you feel fooled. Never again. It’s a great venue, great view, but best to...
