The Achensee and the Rofan mountains are worth a visit if you are in Tirol. Walking, hiking, biking, swimming, skiing, climbing, paragliding ... There is something for everyone and I have tried it all. I live only a few km away and this is our favourite leisure area. The drawback is the high number of tourists, you can expect long traffic jams to get there and parking can be challenging. This is a must see area and activity if you are near by Achensee. The views from the cable car and atop the mountain is magnificent. The cable car runs very smooth and efficient. Atop the mountain there are several options for wonderful hiking paths from really easy short ones to longer difficult ones. There are plenty of places to eat and a nice kids playground. Parking at the base station can be difficult on a nice day so come early to make sure you get a spot. We've been here twice now and will gladly come...
