Visited Thurs 20th July 2023 - Wanted to go as I had seen pics from my Mum from her visit since she now lives in Austria and I thought Gosausee looked incredible. If you want dramatic scenery - mountains and lakes, then this is it!
Although a tad overcast, the weather held out, the only thing is, we couldn't see the mountains at the far end as the clouds obscured the view.
We set out on the walk, the first half we found okay. Took pictures. Along the walk, part way through are signs there are Wild Cows and not to disturb them but let them pass. Ok. We thought nothing of it. Once we got to the half way point, then the excitement kicked in. Out of nowhere, a huge black heifer appeared so we quickly got out the way and stood to the side, the cow made their way into the woods so it clearly knew where they were going.
Then when we went further up, we discovered two more white cows who came to pass before we went down to the lookout point on the lake. It is incredible to see these huge cows up close, they are magnificent. People respect the animals. The lookout point on the lake at the far end is really nice and provides a good perspective for taking photos.
If you are going to do the loop walk or more, I suggest good walking boots/trainers. Carry water/drink for hydration and a snack. Make sure you use the loo before walking round as it is quite a trek especially if you have young children/any health issue etc.
Lots of souvenirs to be had and a restaurant to sit and eat. Small cafe that serves coffee/ice-cream etc. Overall a wonderful place to take in dramatic scenery. Definitely would...

Read moreI visited Gosausee in early May, and although the weather wasn’t great—it had been raining the whole week—the view was still absolutely stunning. The mist hanging over the mountains gave the whole place a magical, almost fairy-tale-like atmosphere. The water level in the lake was still quite low at that time, but it didn’t take away from the beauty of the surroundings.
There’s parking nearby for €2 per hour, up to a maximum of 8 hours. The hiking trail around the lake is relatively easy and takes about 1 to 2 hours to complete, depending on your pace. During my visit, there were very few tourists, which made the experience even more peaceful and enjoyable. If you’re looking for a quiet, scenic escape into nature, Gosausee is definitely worth a visit—even in...
