This is must do thing if you are in Salzburg. I have been here just and ride to top and then snowclad mountain views are breath taking. I was not expecting such a view and it was a big surprise for us. After the cable car takes you to the top, you will be at the top most point in Salzburg. Here you can walk into snow and by walk can reach further to the top. Plus you will have amazing views of Salzburg city. You can easily spent half day here. Now couple of tips: 1. Make sure you have proper snow or winter clothes and boots as walking into snow then would be easy as there is walking path. 2. Take extra precautions while walking and taking pictures as there are no side protective barriers on top. 3. Buy a Salzburg card, online or at shop on station. This would cover your ride to the top and return for free but this is just one time. If you want to do it again, you need to pay. Salzburg card covers free one time all attractions entrance including public transports.

Spectacular cable car ride up the Untersberg mountain just on the outskirts of Salzburg. Get a Salzburg card (25 € during winter months) as it is totally worth it, as you can ride the cable car for free with it for one time. It also let's you use the public transport inside Salzburg for free. You can buy the card at the train station, take a bus to the cable car station. The cable car ride is about 10 mins and you get amazing views of Salzburg and the mountains. Up at the end of the ride, you'll find a café (rather expensive place) and further up you'll find another one. So you can chill out for a while, take great photos and return down. Don't miss it if you are in Salzburg. Sadly, when I went it was snowing like crazy in February. I missed out on the views, but it's still fantastic!

A must visit for a nice view as the scenery is great. At the top is good. I found 45 to 50 people inside the cable car are not a good number. I'm wondering how it would be in the summer heat. Safe to get to the top, however, after exiting the facility at the top you are left with your survival skills. I found no safety measures implemented to prevent one from falling of the cliff especially while snow is covering the area and it's easy to slip going up the hill. A fence of some kind would be helpful. There is a lack of safety personnel who should check people's gear to climb up the snow. For example proper shoes, etc. as not all visitors are aware of what kind of terrain are awaiting them up there (See picture).

It was included in Salzburg pass and we are so glad we took this ride. We took Bus 25 from hauptbahnof and it terminates here. The cable car leaves for top every 30 min on the hour. And same in return. There are 45 seats on each car. We reached around 14:15 and we could take the 14:30 car. It took 9 minutes to reach the top and views were amazing on the journey and from the cable car station at top. However in order to fully get to top of mountain there is more climb to do - so good shoes are a must if you want to go in that hike. Would take an hour I believe. We didn’t do the hike as my shoes were not up to the task. There is also a restaurant at the cable car station level which looked reasonably priced.

It was our last day in Salzburg and we had had nothing to do in the morning. We decided to visit Untersberg. We took bus no. 25 from old town which took about 25 minutes to reach here. Since we did not have the Salzburg card, we bought individual tickets costing about 15 or 20 euros. The cable car goes up every 30 minutes in summer. The base station had a small restaurant and toilet facilities. The ride to the top was absolutely stunning. Some facts about the cable car. Altitude bottom station 468 m Altitude top station 1777 m Inclined length 2822 m Vertical rise 1308 m Duration of travel 8"20* min/sec Operation speed 8 m/s Transport capacity 310 p/h Don't miss it !!

We rode the bus to Untersbergbahn using our Salzburg Card and also used it for admission. It was a 34 minute ride on the bus to our destination. The tram was extremely smooth and fast with amazing views. We went on a 3:30 tram and our car only had 8 people on the way up. We able to freely move and see the views because of this. On the way down, our car was clear full, we were pretty much confined to our space... we stood in the back. We enjoyed a drink at the top restaurant and it was a great way to escape heat. It was MUCH cooler at the top and the views were amazing. We aren't hikers, so we were really just there to catch the views and it was worth the time.
