Outstanding!
The 4 Euro parking ticket is for the entire day! Wooo hooo! You will need your licence plates.
Buy the return lift ticket 🎟 last return is 5:30pm or when the weather turns. The lift runs every 30 minutes. They have senior rates.
Its is gorgeous going up and up and up! I won't spoil the surprise. Just wow.
Whn you arrive step outside in the terrace. Take your photos. Notice the sign that says the company will not rescue you from this point on. Notice folk are exploring, hiking, and walking on the trails.
No guard rails so walk close to the mountain. Its worth every step f amazing views. Children walked all the way to the peak and some raced past me. Watch the time. Its easy to want to linger.
There's a restaurant at the top. Cash only. Their hot chocolate is the real deal when the temperature drops at the end of the day. They also have classic Austrian dishes with generous servings.
I did wish I brought my sweater. It's breezy and a little chill even though the sun was shining. It gets cooler by 4pm. Bring water and snacks. Wear good gripping hiking shoes. Its rocky, even some places may have wooden slats for steps. Charge your cell phone to take tons of photos 📸
Folk were appearing from hiking even further. They must have station in the...
Read moreBreathtaking views and a must-do while in Salzburg. The Untersbergbahn offers a smooth, scenic ride up to the top of the Untersberg mountain — and the experience is absolutely worth it. The cable car ride itself is quick (about 8 minutes), but the views as you ascend are incredible, with sweeping panoramas over Salzburg, the Alps, and into Bavaria.
At the summit, you’re greeted with 360° views, fresh mountain air, and several well-marked hiking trails — from gentle strolls to more challenging routes. Even if you’re not hiking, it’s a great place to just sit, relax, and take in the scenery. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Salzach valley, Berchtesgaden, and even Lake Chiemsee.
There’s a cozy mountaintop restaurant where you can grab a coffee or lunch with a view, and plenty of photo opportunities. Bring a jacket — even in summer, it can be cool and windy at the top.
If you’re visiting Salzburg and want to escape the city for a few hours, this is one of the best things you can do. Peaceful, stunning, and...
Read moreEasily my highlight of salzburg and an absolute MUST do if you have an extra day in the city. 100% worth buying the salzburg card as its almost cheaper than this alone, and gives you free public transportation to get here. Takes about half an hour on the bus from most places within the city and busses go regularly. I arrived at 10am on a Monday in early February and it was pretty much empty, although this of course won't always be the case. Cable cars go every 30 minutes at xx:00 and xx:30
The views are unbelievable, even on a cloudy day, and it's especially impressive when there is snow on the ground, but be careful when walking as you WILL slip without the proper equipment, and there is no real fencing to protect you.
There is a cafe at the cable car station, but recommend walking a few minutes to a little restaurant instead. The views are great and it's relatively well priced given the location (4.90 for a cappuccino). There is also wifi at the station, although phone service works pretty well...
