What an horrible experience to ski in Sölden in oktober! The most of the open slopes(4) are reserved for the training Teams. The snow quality is bad but it's also because maybe everyone is taking the car to go up so it's not helping... I decided to take the bus with two friends to reach the Gletscher. I thought, it i stupid to take the car if the bus is going.... The way up was ok but it was a disaster to go down! I tried to go down from Rettenbachgletscher to Sölden by bus but no chance. The first Bus arrived but it was totally full, Half hour later should arrive another bus, this one went straight down without to pass at Rettenbachgletscher because this one was also full. After one hour of waiting in the cold i was still at Rettenbachgletscher. I started to talk with the Bergbahnen and as i explain him the situation, je told that this problem was already known sinds many years. So I called by myself the Ötztaler company that they send more buses. But that was already to late because the bus takes a least 40 minutes to arrived.
Another bus pass through but this one was also extremely full so i had to stand in front of the bus to let him stop. I talked with this Bus driver called Robert who was very friendly and he told me that for safety he couldn't let us enter but I told him that I had enough to wait for buses who were anyway full. So, he let us jump in but it was really to crowded and not very safe. We had to tell him if the turns were clear because he couldn't see anything on the side. People were also screaming and getting aggressiv... Dangerous it was
Spending 69€ for les than 4 slopes, Bad snow quality and also no bus to return to Sölden..! I understand why people goed with the car but if BBS Sölden offers the service to take the bus.... Then it should be possible! The problem is not new so please fix it because if everyone keep taking the car to go to the Gletscher, then the snow will be gone quicker. Sad but truth, there is not a bus sign or digital board to see when the next buses are coming on the Gletscher For the millions you make with us. It should be possible i think to put better informations boards and more buses to hold the service you're giving to you customers.
Also asking locals to pay the same price as a tourist is insane. No local means no ski resort!
Stop stealing money from the people for bad services!

Read moreIn 45 years of skiing, in nearly 40 different resorts throughout Europe and North America, I have never come across such poorly managed and maintained pistes as those in Sölden.
Despite generous snow coverage during our visit in the last week of February 2024, the whole area was a sea of moguls and crud, every day of of our trip, from early morning onwards. I saw 3 piste-bashers all week, & precious little evidence of them having ever been used.
The execrable piste conditions, combined with rampant over-crowding, multiple narrow pinch-points on the mountain, & some very questionable piste ratings, made the whole experience not just extremely disappointing but also, even more worryingly, potentially dangerous.
Whilst, on the plus side, the uphill capacity at Sölden is admirable, with negligible lift queues, the whole experience was completely undermined by the resort's inability to offer anything approaching a consistent surface. The Sölden website's ongoing description of the snow conditions as 'packed powder' was, quite simply, a bare-faced lie.
I will not be returning to Sölden, as my time in the mountains is far too precious to waste on a resort that clearly doesn't give a damn about its guests. I would strongly encourage anyone visiting Ötztal to spend their time in...
Read moreThe Sölden ski resort, despite its reputation as a top skiing destination, does not quite live up to the hype, in my opinion. The main drawback is the lack of diverse and high-quality slopes that would satisfy more experienced skiers. While the scenery is undeniably stunning and hard to fault, the primary reason for visiting a ski resort is skiing, and Sölden falls short in this regard.
Another downside is the overcrowding on the main slopes, with a significant number of beginners learning to ski. This creates chaos and significantly hampers the overall skiing experience, particularly for those seeking smooth runs on more challenging terrain.
Overall, Sölden feels overrated, especially when compared to other resorts within a two-hour drive that offer much better conditions. For those who prioritize well-prepared slopes and less crowding, there are certainly better alternatives available. However, if breathtaking views are your main focus, Sölden might still be worth a visit, though probably not as a top choice for skiing...
