Thaler See — Attraction in Thal

The walk around the lake is leisurely, with no climbs and easy to walk even for grandma and grandpa and not very strenuous. If you want more, follow the signposted 9-kilometer circular trail in the footsteps of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Sporty ones come by bike - the "R 39-Thaler Radweg" leads from Graz Gösting directly here. A trip out on the lake in a rowing boat or pedal boat - perhaps with the swan - is real fun for young and old. But some people also come here just to relax and make themselves comfortable on the large sunbathing lawn on the western shore of the lake (don't forget a blanket). In the casual, newly built cafe 'Thaler See Garten' - with a beautiful large terrace directly on the water - you can really enjoy the wonderful view with all kinds of fine specialties, cool drinks and of course coffee, cake...

A perfect place for hiking to but it's reachable with a bike as well as with public transportation. The Café there is nice, clean and usually busy. You can have a snack or a coffee there but also to have a brunch. Dog friendly. The view is beautiful, the crew is busy but mostly fairly quick. Sehr schöne Landschaft, von Graz aus schnell zu erreichen, auch mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln (Bus 48 von Graz-Gösting, Endstation). Eine Runde um den See entlang des gepflegten Rundwanderweges hat 1,5 Kilometer, ist also für jeden zu packen und macht zu jeder Jahreszeit Spaß. Hier muss ich leider einen kleinen Kritikpunkt anbringen: Die ersten Meter des Rundwanderweges, beginnend beim Restaurant, dem Waldcafe Thalersee bis zum Bootsverleih geht man direkt am Wasser entlang, ohne Geländer. Das ist besonders für Kinder nicht ganz ungefährlich, hier könnte man nachbessern, was die Sicherheit betrifft. Nach dem Ende des Rundgangs kommt man wieder zum Restaurant, das mit seiner großen Seeterrasse zum Verweilen einlädt, wenngleich die Preise für eine ländliche Region eher hoch angesetzt sind. Aber Angebot und Nachfrage sind die Basis der Preisgestaltung und das Waldcafe ist eben das einzige Restaurant in der näheren Umgebung.
