It is really an great adventure to visit Junkanoo World. It is kind of a museum and workshop with amenities like a bar and a small kitchen where you can enjoy very good local food. My sister and I had the opportunity to interact with a very well known character of the celebrated Junkanoo festival as it's Mr Barrabas who was so kind to introduce us to the creation of a very special head piece characteristic of their Junkanoo's customs. In addition to that the whole family got together and invited us to a "rush", which consists in a parade dancing and playing drums and some kind of bells called "cow rattles" (I think). It was explained to us that they spend the money collected in teaching and training the community to keep their folklore alive. Read moreThis was by far the best thing we’ve done while staying in the Bahamas! It was such a great cultural experience. If you are in this area, please fit this into your itinerary! You will NOT regret it! We stayed at the Atlantis Hotel and did quite a bit of activities but nothing topped this! The whole experience is something our party of 22 (ranging from ages 11-73) will never forget! The staff was extremely friendly, the costumes were beautiful and the Congo line at the end was very memorable to say the least! Not to mention everything the owner does for his community. Although this is a small museum, it is full of rich history and amazing people. Legendary Quentin Woodside and his family were so very wonderful and accomodating.
