“Masjid-e-Siraj ud-Daulah, locally known as Chandanpura Jame Masjid, is one of the great examples of Mughal-inspired architecture. According to historians, it was built in 1870 by one Master Abdul Hamid, a contractor. After its construction, the mosque used to be known as Hamidia-Taj-Masjid. Builders and architects from Lucknow and Mumbai (of India) were brought in for the work. Later in 1947, Abu Syed Dobhash, a descendant of Hamid, took the initiative to renovate the mosque, which was completed in 1952. It had cost around Tk 4 lakh for the renovation. At present, a committee formed by descendants of Dobhash looks after the mosque.”

A muezzin issues a call to prayer from the Chandanpura mosque (1960s). The Chandanpura mosque is situated in Chittagong (Bangladesh) on the Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah road. Little of its history is known. There are two perspectives. The mosque was built during the mid 19th century, or after the conquest of Chittagong during the reign of Aurangzeb. The condition of the mosque in this picture (1960s) unfortunately shows clear signs of deterioration due to neglect & environmental factors such as air pollution. The mosque has over the years been renovated, regained its beautiful pristine, & remains a favourite tourist destination.

Chandanpura Mosque, also known as Masjid-e-Siraj ud-Daulah is famous for its architecture that is unique to typical mosques around the country. It's different from Sultani and Mughal era mosques from Early Modern period. Around 150 years old, it's beautiful floral designs on walls, bright colours and influence of North Indian and British designs can still bring you to that period as it's beauty is still untapped compared to other old mosques in and around Chittagong city.

Built in the late 19th century, this historic mosque stands as one of the most stunning architectural landmarks of the city, admired for its Mughal-inspired design with multiple domes, towering minarets, and colorful floral motifs. Its unique two-storey structure, zigzag staircases, and intricate stucco details create a dazzling blend of light and shadow that leaves visitors mesmerized. Beyond its beauty, it remains a vibrant place of prayers and spiritual gathering, drawing devotees and admirers alike. Despite the growing challenges of pollution and urban encroachment, the mosque continues to shine as a timeless symbol of heritage, faith, and artistry, embodying both the spiritual essence and historic identity of the...

This mosque has an onion style dome and fanciful minarets. It is quite striking in appearance. Unfortunately, there are numerous power lines and bamboo construction platforms all around preventing a good view. The mosque was locked when I was there despite other mosques in the city being open. This is one of the oldest mosque in Bangladesh situated in the heart of port city Chittagong. This is one of the great masterpiece of 17th century. This mosque is one of the best tourist attraction that can be found in Bangladesh because of its spectacular architectural design. The mosque is spacious, with slender columns, elongated buttresses and intricately designed balusters. The colorful design of the mosque is...

one of the most beautiful mosque in Chittagong I think..its too much gorgeous...Now the work is going on in the construction of the mosque.no mosque can defeat this mosque. 😍 I love this mosque from my childhood. If I was a boy, I used to pray in the mosque. I saw the mosque in peace.Mosque is the symbol of peace. All these boys should pray once in the mosque.
