The Dhaka Zoo was established in 1950 to display animals at the High Court premises. Dhaka Zoo was established for the purpose of wildlife conservation, research, education and entertainment. In 1981, the zoo was shifted from the High Court premises to Mirpur. Dhaka Zoo was established on an area of ​​16.60 acres on the banks of Turag river in Mirpur. It was opened to the public in 1984.
