De Klankmakerij — Attraction in Heuvelland

We saw the advert for this place in a local tourist brochure at the holiday cottage we were staying at ( we were from UK ). As the week looked a little wet in places and 3 of our party of 4 were musical(ish) and aged 54, 51, 25 and 12 we thought we'd give it a try. From what we could tell they only allow sessions at 09.30, 11.30, 13.30 and 15.30 and this is due to only allowing limited groups at once and assuming they will take 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. Online was more of a reservation as you still pay when you arrive and they only took a local Belgian card or cash ( so it was cash for us ). The reservation system didn't seem to allow us to book the next day, only 2 days on or more ( we booked Wednesday night and Friday was earliest slot we could get ) but this might just be because they were fully booked on the Thursday, not sure. Check in on arrival was easy and the 2 staff were very friendly and explained to us in English ( luckily for us! ) the process of going round the Klankmakerij. You need a group name at this point as well so it can track your scores. Note that the experience itself is all in Flemish so if you don't read that, then load up a translate App or 2 on your smartphones before you go so you can read the instructions! This actually added to the experience for us I think, as some of the translations were quite funny, and still took a little working out! ( Bladder instrument being one of them! ) The experience itself is a central room where you answer a few questions and it guides you 1 of 5 side rooms where you have various musical tasks and where points are awarded to each team member individually, so you are actually playing against people in your own team, not other teams. All the tasks were fun and with the translate Apps on the phone, fairly easy to work out. Perhaps the hardest was the 3 wheels where you had to match 3 ( music related ) symbols as some I think you could only do if you were Belgian, but there were enough that were global that as a group of 4 we could do. You do all 5 rooms but order will vary depending on which rooms other groups are in. Overall we really enjoyed the whole experience, it was unique, we all learned things about the local folk festival and music and if we are ever in Flanders again we would go back. We took just over 2 hours in the end. We booked the 11.30 slot so we could have lunch in the attached Folk cafe ( Klankmakerij reception offered to reserve our table for us which was good of them ), which was also a very enjoyable meal but a different review! So in short, a very enjoyable experience for anyone regardless of musical ability or nationality, just have the translate Apps on your phone if you don't read Flemish ( which in a way added to the whole experience...

Een onverwacht superleuke en interactieve muziekervaring!

In het weekend zijn we naar De Klankmakerij geweest met ons kleine nichtje. We wisten totaal niet wat we mochten verwachten en het was een superleuke, onverwachte ervaring voor het hele gezin!

Het is een interactief muziekspel, een soort ganzenbord, waarbij je via vragen en opdrachten punten verdient en uitdagingen aangaat. Alles is gelinkt aan muziek, Dranouter en het festival. Het bijzonder mooi ingerichte spel is leuk voor teams en je doet spelenderwijs muziekkennis op. Bij sommige vragen is wat muziekkennis (van artiesten of instrumenten) nodig, ideaal dus voor een leuke samenwerking tussen ouders en kinderen, maar er zijn allerlei klank- en doe-activiteiten om iedereen te entertainen.

De winnaar krijgt een VIP-ticket en zit op de mooiste plaats recht tegenover de accordeon, die een passende compositie speelt voor de winnaar! Je mag voor de volledige spellenronde zeker 1,5 tot 2 uur uittrekken. Bij ons duurde die precies 2 uur.

Kortom, een zeer plezierige ervaring voor iedereen, ongeacht muzikale vaardigheden. Een absolute aanrader, niet alleen voor volwassenen of muziekfanaten; voor ons nichtje van 7 jaar was het een geweldige namiddag!

Na het spel kan je nog even napraten met een drankje of hapje in het aanpalende café Foll's, waar de muren versierd zijn met allerlei muziekgerelateerde artefacten, foto’s en posters. Perfect voor een minder zonnige, koude of natte dag!

Dikke pluim ook voor de sympathieke, gemotiveerde en zeer behulpzame man achter de balie. Chapeau!

Tijdens regenachtige vakantie in juli 2021 deze attractie bezocht, die nog maar nèt geopend was. Met kleindochter van vijf en dochter en schoonzoon hebben mijn man en ik als "oudjes" enorm genoten van deze attractie ! Het vergde een leuke "samenwerkende vennootschap" tussen de verschillende generaties :) , het muziek maken was super en de vragen oplossen door items te zoeken was een uitdaging. Een echte aanrader voor gezinnen met meerdere generaties in ! Het optreden voor de winnaar (onze kleindochter natuurlijk! ) werd gesmaakt door opa, oma,...
