Hopmuseum Poperinge — Attraction in Poperinge

Visited as part of the Leger Beer & Battlefields Tour. I believe there is an audio tour for this place, we had a guide who moved us through the museum and explained everything hops... The place is lovely but on several floors and as such for me with bad knees was difficult thankfully there was a lift but in places whilst standing and listening to the guide there was nowhere to sit and I was flagging somewhat and the tour started at the top floor and as it decended I had to use the stairs. The tour went on for quite some time and if I'm honest was a little too comprehensive and long even to the risk of boredom setting in. The exhibits were interesting, however being an English tourist and not being multi lingual it was a frustrating and somewhat irritating visit. I think you need to alter the information given to to visitors to include English. Although I will say that the whole place was lovely and clean and did accommodate the need of disabled people. Met veel zorg heeft de gemeente een Hop museum ingericht op een plek waar vroeger Hop verhandeld werd. In drie etages wilt men u meenemen in de geschiedenis van Hop en het maken van Hop.

En ondanks dat men hun best heeft gedaan en het er erg verzorgd uitziet, is het een beetje saai en langdradig. De verteller vertelt wel interessante dingen op de derde, maar al snel is het fragmentarisch en te kort of juist te lang.

Het is ook jammer dat er niets tekstueels te vinden is. Waardoor ik als bierliefhebber al snel gewoon even wegdwaal en rondloop. En dat terwijl er echt wel een mooei geschiedenis te vertellen is over de relatie tussen bier en hop hop hop.

Voor de kinderen is er een speurtocht! En die is toch net iets moeilijker dan gemiddeld, waardoor ook ouders ineens iets te doen hebben....
