We recently visited Castle Loppem and were struck by its beauty. The grounds are lovely, and the outside of the castle in particular is stunning — it really has that fairytale quality you hope for when visiting a historic site.

Inside, we found things a little underwhelming, though that may simply come down to personal taste. What really stood out, however, was the thoughtful touch of allowing children to dress up as knights, kings, or princesses. Our child absolutely loved it, and it added so much liveliness and fun to the visit.

One thing we missed was the option for food and drinks. With such a charming location and atmosphere, a small café or terrace for tea would elevate the experience enormously.

The only real sour note was the lavatory, which was unfortunately in a state that can only be described as “historically authentic in all the wrong ways.” A bit of attention here would make a big difference.

Overall, a beautiful castle and grounds with a lot of potential to become an even more...

Really lovely castle, a real gem that I wasn't expecting. Really good access around the castle, downstairs decorated and furnished more or less as it would have been hundreds of years ago. Upstairs, a well-organised and well-presented collection of pieces of art and ornaments from the castle that are no longer able to be 'in place'. Also upstairs is a reconstruction of how it would have been when the then King and Queen of Belgium stayed there during the first World War and lots of information about this time. We didn't have a lot of time on our tour but it was really interesting.

The toilets were good, there were some by the entrance to the estate and some at the entrance to the castle. The grounds were very picturesque, even though when we were there it was beginning to rain.

There's also a maze, which we didn't get time to do, it I can imagine this would...

the property is wonderful to walk around. it is close to a highway though, so depending where you are in the gardens you hear the cars. the labyrinth was great fun (and quite difficult to get out of!). i found the visit of the castle interesting (lots of facts about the family that used to live there, the war era and how albert I was there) but not per say my cup of tea. be aware that they do not take card, so have...
