Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The water is clear, light blue, warm and not very deep - only in a small spot it reaches the depth to be over one’s head and then is shallower again. You can swim over the lagoon and reach an island on the other side. Maaany other beautiful things to see on Comino, totally worth going! I would truly recommend to go EARLY I was there with the first ferry at 9.30 AM and there ALREADY were people. Later on I left at around 3 PM and there was an ARMY of people coming in alllllll the time, it was very crowded. There are sun chairs and beach umbrellas which I advise to NOT get as the price was shockingly 35€ for 2 people. You can totally put your towel somewhere else because if your goal is to tan, it will be kind of hard to do as there are umbrellas everywhere which keep it shady. It is very rocky and cliffy, your feet WILL hurt if you’ll want to reach the lagoon barefooted, I’d recommend some slippers to reach the water and leave them at the stairs which lead to the enterance in water. One girl fell because her slippers slipped and hurt herself quite badly so be very careful on the greenish rocks! They are VERY slippery! Take sunscreen (I’m the weird person who never uses sunscreen) because at first I thought I won’t get touched by the sun anyway but later in the evening I was RED as a lobster (still am), the UV there is around 9,10 so it’s huge and even my dumb self decided to finally put on sunscreen. Use SPF50+ as the SPF30 did literally NOTHING. Otherwise I’d say it was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to. There are seperate cliffs to see from the shore, even caves, the ferry also takes you to see them while going to Comino (15€ per person for the whole ferry ride). You can totally walk in a swimming suit around the island so it’s not as hot, but be careful because UV9+! There are pineapples you can buy at Comino, they take out the fruit from the middle and you can choose from many alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails to fill it up, I’ve added a photo aswell. Worth it! Many of the cocktails contain freshly blended pineapple which is super tasty, the first pineapple costs 9€ and once it’s empty, you can fill the same pineapple up for 5€ with any cocktail you want (Piña Colada is sooo good as the juice is fresh). If you’re visitng Malta, you MUST visit Comino and the Blue Lagoon! I’ll remember this place for the...

I recently visited the Blue Lagoon in Malta with my partner and two friends, and while the natural beauty of the place is undeniable, our overall experience left us with mixed feelings.
We booked a sunset cruise through the Oh Yeah company, departing from Għadira Bay. The boat trip itself was fantastic relaxing, scenic, and far more comfortable than the earlier cruise that left just before ours. That earlier boat looked completely packed from the shore, to the point it seemed overbooked. In contrast, our sunset cruise had fewer people on board, with plenty of space to move around, sit comfortably, and actually enjoy the journey. That alone made a big difference.
However, once we arrived at the Blue Lagoon, the magic quickly wore off. Within just a few minutes of being there, I turned to my partner and friends and said how disappointed I was and they all agreed. The place was overrun. Boats of all kinds were crammed into the tiny bay: cruise boats, private yachts, water sports vessels all blasting music and jostling for space. It felt chaotic and way too commercialized, almost completely detracting from the natural beauty.
Even one of the lifeguards, clearly frustrated, was overheard telling a colleague, “There’s too many boats,” which pretty much summed up the vibe.
The water itself is just as clear and beautiful as all the photos suggest turquoise, warm, and inviting. But the small beach area was overcrowded with barely any room to sit or enjoy it. It felt more like a tourist trap than a peaceful island escape.
We paid £25 each, and fortunately, the cruise ended on a high note. On the way back, we stopped to watch the sunset with a glass of champagne, and that was honestly the best part of the whole outing peaceful, scenic, and memorable.
Overall verdict: The Blue Lagoon is visually stunning, but the experience is let down by how over-commercialized and overcrowded it’s become. If you go, I’d recommend choosing a quieter time of day like a sunset cruise, but manage your expectations. The photos may promise paradise but the crowds make it feel more like a busy amusement park...
Read moreThere is no question that this is a really beautiful place to visit, we thoroughly enjoyed the water and the view. However, there is a glaringly obvious flaw with the excursion that seems to be withheld from the sales pitch, it is unsuitable to be visited without owning your own boat/yacht. Even if you are one of the few who manage to grab a parasol and bed combo, of the 1% available of the total daily visitors, you will still be operating your day as if you were a guillemot sea bird living on a cliff edge. Whilst the rock face is beautiful, sitting upright for 4 hours in razor sharp rock, is not particularly relaxing. On our arrival, having secured tickets and the morning and afternoon government passes (which without you’ll not even enter the area) we balanced our way along the narrow pass to hunt for a place to plot up. The options were, balancing on centimetres of jagged rock with many humans around us, or plotting high up with a 15 minute vertical rock climb to get to water, with the same dangerous journey back to your stuff, by which time, with no shade, you’d need to return to the water to sizzle your shoulders. We were in fact fortunate, we spotted a 4 metre gap in humans closer to the water, but required some ‘rope worthy’ abseiling down sheer rock. The risk of bone breaks or ripped skin seemed worth it to secure a small amount of shade, thus avoiding 3rd degree burns, at least for 3 of our group. This was genuinely lucky, as all other areas had been taken, none of which were suitable for any form of relaxing and had no shade.
In summary: Go here as early as feasibly possible to secure a bed and parasol as this will make the environment much more palatable. If you don’t go early, go fully prepared for hours of intense and powerful sunshine in extremely tough environment. The site is very pretty, but essentially this was a trip to the seaside with none of the practical features any other sea site has.
Worst case rent/buy a luxury yacht so you can enjoy the sea and the views but return to...
