I recently had the opportunity to visit the Blue Lagoon in Comino, Malta, and while I can't deny its natural beauty, my overall experience left me with mixed feelings. The Blue Lagoon is undoubtedly one of the most famous tourist attractions in Malta, and for good reason its crystal-clear turquoise waters and picturesque surroundings are truly captivating. However, my visit was marred by the overwhelming crowds that seem to flock to this spot, especially during the day.
Upon arriving at the Blue Lagoon, I was immediately struck by the stunning scenery. The vibrant blue waters contrasting with the rugged cliffs of Comino Island create a postcard-perfect setting. The allure of swimming in such a beautiful location was undeniable, and I couldn't wait to take a dip in the inviting waters.
Unfortunately, the sheer number of visitors was a significant drawback. The beach cliff was extremely crowded, making it challenging to find a decent spot to relax. People were jostling for space, and the tranquil atmosphere I had hoped for was quickly disrupted by the noise and commotion. It felt more like a crowded water park than a serene natural wonder.
To make matters worse, the Blue Lagoon attracts tour boats, ferrying even more tourists to the area. The constant influx of boats not only added to the congestion but also had a negative impact on the water quality. The once-pristine waters started to show signs of pollution, which was disheartening to see.
Thankfully, as the day wore on, many of the day-trippers began to leave, and the beach became more bearable. It was only then that I could truly appreciate the beauty of the Blue Lagoon. The tranquility returned, and I finally had the opportunity to take in the stunning surroundings without feeling like I was part of a large, chaotic crowd.
In conclusion, the Blue Lagoon in Gozo, Malta, is undeniably a beautiful natural wonder, but it suffers from its own popularity. If you're planning to visit, I highly recommend going during the off-peak hours or staying late like I did to enjoy the beach cliff when it's less crowded. While the experience was initially marred by the overwhelming number of visitors, once the crowds thinned out, it became the idyllic paradise I had hoped for. However, given the overhyped reputation and the challenges of dealing with the crowds, I can't help but feel that there are other, less-crowded gems in Malta...
Read moreExtremely crowded. Very nice scene. Good to take a few photos and go. No place to leave your towel and enter the water or even to lay. Plenty of fast food and drinks, but if you buy something you have no place to sit and enjoy it. No vegan options for food. In the beach area there was a strong scent.
It is understandable the beach is small to inexistent, but they could have tried more to install some options to seat on the island: benches, terraces, bars. The nature here is stunning, but you have to imagine away all the people. The nature takes 5 stars, but I'll give less to encourage locals...
