✅ The water was impossibly blue—like a midsummer dream, too vivid to be real. ✅ The water was bone-chilling—like a jolt of reality you can’t ignore. ✅ But when you emerge from the sea, it’s like your soul has been rinsed clean—rebooted, weightless. I swam in that icy water for 20 minutes. Not just a dip—a quiet triumph. My first time. Comino isn’t just a picture-perfect postcard. It was once a place of exile—a remote outpost for the sick, the runaway, the unwanted. An island of quarantine, prison, and silent watch. From the ramparts of Santa Marija Tower, you can almost hear the echo of boots on stone, see the soldiers squinting at the horizon, unsure if the next boat would bring danger—or hope. And now, we float in the same waters. We dive, laugh, sunbathe, pose for photos. The sea forgets, but the stones remember. Time rewrote the story— What was once an island of isolation is now an island of vacation.

Crystal Lagoon is an absolute gem and one of the highlights of our trip to Malta! Tucked away near the Blue Lagoon on Comino, it's a little more secluded and peaceful, making it perfect for swimming, snorkelling, and relaxing away from the bigger crowds. The water is unbelievably clear — a beautiful shade of turquoise — and you can see straight down to the seabed. We visited by boat and anchored nearby, then jumped straight into the water for a swim. The cliffs surrounding the lagoon give it a dramatic and picturesque feel. If you’re visiting Malta or Comino, Crystal Lagoon is 100% worth the stop. Bring your snorkel, camera, and plenty of time to soak in the beauty — it feels like a slice of paradise.

I recommend seeing these beautiful shores and caves from a boat. We visited them with a combined boat trip from Mgarr (Gozo) to Blue Lagoon, Comino for €10/each. These boat trips are easy to find in the harbor of Mgarr, because a lot of "advertising agents" are selling them. I know it sounds like a tourist trap, but in my opinion it was a better experience than going with the "official" big ferry, which is cheaper, but only drops you off in blue lagoon beach. And remember to bargain! They will sell it to you for €10, but the starting price is always €15.
