Praia Lopes Mendes, the most beautiful beach of Ilha Grande also considered as one of the top Brazilian and World beaches. What a stunning place well deserving it's reputation! The beach stretches over 3km and offer very fine white sand, amazing waves perfect for surfing and stunning views to green hills covered in Brasilia Atlantic rainforest surrounding entire place. There are strong currents so be careful and don't swim too far from the coastline.

HOW TO GET THERE There are few ways how to get there the most common is hike from Vila Abraâo. The hike is marked as T10, is about 6km long and will take you between 2 to 3 hours one way. I would really recomendad that as you will see way more that way. There are places to get some snacks on the beaches and ocasional restaurants I would still recomend pack water and some food with you. The hike goes through another three beaches. First you will hit Praia das Palmas then Praia Mangues and the last one is Pouso. From Pouso it's about another 15 minutes before stunning Praia Lopes Mendes open in front of you. If you lucky you might spot all sorts of animals on the way such as brown howler monkeys, marmosets, lizards and all sorts of birds.

For those who are not fans of hiking or you get tired after your hike to the beach, there is an option of taking a boat to or from Pouso. The cost is R$25 per person and it takes about 15min to reach Vila Abraâo. The hike from Pouso to Praia Lopes Mendes will only take you like 15-20 minutes.

Enjoy...

CUIDADO.

Very long sandy beach. Apparently once voted among the best beaches in the world but I don't see why, as it is not very special or photogenic.

The life guards mark most of the beach unsafe to swim and only leave a small part open in front of their watch tower. But that part is so shallow that it's not possible to swim there and beyond that there are huge waves so again not swimmable.

The best thing about the beach is that it is so big you can find a spot with no one around. The trail to get there from the drop off point is about 20 minutes and you can see some cute looking monkeys there if...

People say this is the nicest beach on Ilha Grande and it's really easy to see why. The water is a little more choppy but that makes it way more interesting! The sand is super white and the landscape is ridiculously beautiful. It can get very busy here but there is so much area here that you can easily find yourself a space! The hike from the main beach is a bit tough in the heat but really rewarding (just make sure you do it with enough time to get the boat back at about 5ish as you'll be exhausted when you arrive).
